I have had multiple occasions when Memrise only gives me speed reviews. One after another. Right now I’m in Dutch 7 at level 21, with my progress bar at 2/17 words and phrases. The only way for me to get a different kind of test, as far as I have figured out, is to log out and back in.This has happened at multiple levels of Dutch.

The issue happens randomly. I touch “Continue learning” from the home screen and sometimes i get stuck in speed review–only testing.
The app’s suggestion seems to really be more or less random. You can always choose whatever type of session you want by tapping the tree-dots-button though. Ever since they changed the start page or a course, you’ll have to tap “Learning” though, only then you’ll see the “…” button.
Note that I’m using Android, so it might actually be different on iOS (which I don’t have access to).
I would like to report the same issue. This is using the MemRise German 1 course, with MemRise iOS App v2022.8.9.52760.
First, I want the app to tell ME what to work on. I want the language experts at MemRise to give me a flow; I don’t want to pick myself whether it’s time to work on “Words & Phrases” or “Speed Review” or “Grammar”, as @Olaf.Rabbachin kindly suggests is possible.
I infer that this is how MemRise is designed, because there is generally always a big yellow button at or near the bottom of the screen, which is the “take me to the next thing” button.
However, like @kongjie states, sometimes that yellow button is the dreaded “Speed Review”. And I tend to get stuck in Speed Reviews. Ok here we go. Speed Review, 26 Words to Review, let’s go. So I do one Speed Review round and get them all right. “10 Words just reviewed, 16 Words to Review”. The big yellow button is [Speed Review] so i tap it. Another speed review. Ok, “20 Words just reviewed, 6 Words to Review”. Another speed review? Alright. Finished. “10 words just reviewed, 1 Words to Review”. Another speed review? Finished. “10 Words just reviewed, 1 Words to Review”. Wait what? Someone is doing the math wrong. Ok did another speed review. And another. And another. Still 10 reviewed, 1 to review, and the big yellow button is [Speed Review]. Another speed review. And another. And then I find myself here, logging a bug, because I am so annoyed!
Perhaps I am doing something wrong? Or misunderstanding that Speed Review is a bottomless pit that I must explicitly climb out of, by manually selecting a different lesson style? That would seem quite weird.
The fact that the contents of any session relies on the exact time when you start a session is something that drives me up the wall pretty much every single day. If you, like me, are someone who does sessions every day, but at very different times, this is just what happens.
My assumption is that the reason is that Memrise considers the time when it calculates which words are up for review. While this is good for words you just learned (fully), it is very counterproductive once the first SRS-cycle has been completed.
@MemriseSupport, @James_g_memrise: do you see any chance that you could query your database for a “give me all items for today from 0:00am to 11:59pm” set of records? If you want people to do their first review for a newly learned word, you could just differentiate between the first review and all others …
