Maybe I’m missing something, but I’d like to be able to study all of a level/unit without automatically being redirected back to the main progression after a single round. A progress bar comes up for the new level, but there’s no option to continue specifically with that level, rather than jumping back. This would be very useful for reviewing specific topics.

It doesn’t quite become clear what you refer to (main progression? single round?) and what platform you are using.
FWIW, you can always go into a given level and then click/tap the three-dots-icon and select a review or speed review from there. The session will then consist of all words/items found on that specific level.
If that isn’t what you’re after, please try to better describe what you’re after.
