Started a course on the website; it won't show up on the phone app

I tried searching for this, but couldn’t find an existing thread.

I started a course on the website (English 5, from French). It won’t show up on the phone app. Anyone know a fix?

Take a look at this posting and my answer underneath:

FWIW, @MemriseSupport and @JBorrego: are you aware of any course-sync problems between web and iOS/Android?
I actually noticed that the course order does not seem to sync between devices. That is, the order is different between my mobile and my tablet (both Android). Haven’t started a new course in a while though, so I can’t tell whether this might be a general problem.

I have the same problem: can’t see recently added course in my list.
Yet haven’t tried any magic tricks like clearing cache.

I actually did that yesterday on my mobile, but it didn’t change anything.
It’s really a bit weird - I worked through the greater share of my list of courses this morning (25 courses) on my tablet and just opened Memrise on my mobile a moment ago. There, the course list’s order has changed, but only for like the first 7 courses (all Spanish, the 8th is a different language).

I presume it has to do with the performance fixes that were introduced like 2.5 weeks ago. When they incorporated their fixes, something else probably broke …

I’ve always assumed it takes a while to synchronise.

Can you help @MemriseSupport?

I’ve contacted @MemriseSupport about the same problem and they promised to get back to me

I wound up uninstalling and reinstalling the app (again) and it synced the courses properly.

That process definitely needs to be fixed.

Hi all,

The Android team are aware of this issue with the app syncing. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple or quick fix and must be prioritised against other work and bugs we have ongoing, so we’re unable to provide an estimated timeframe for a solution. In the meantime, however, logging out and back into the app should do the trick.

Thanks so much for your patience,

Open Applications management on your phone, and clean Memrise App data, then log in with e-mail and password. It may help.

Yes, I too have found the best way to sync is to actually log out on my Android phone (not just swipe closed) then log back in.

This is also necessary for word changes to take effect and for the short description to appear or update.

Thank you very much for this suggestion. I wasn’t able to do anything so far. I restarted the application and the phone and nothing happened. Well … it didn’t come to my mind to simply log out and log in again  Now it works. Thank you

Logging out and logging in again fixed this for me.

Hi all,

Just a note to say that this issue is now fixed. Please update your app to version 2.94_24699_memrise when it becomes available in your app store :slightly_smiling_face:

When you make any changes on web, you will just need to pull down the screen on the course selection page of your app to refresh.

Please let us know if you have any problems!

Thanks @MemriseSupport,

I updated the app and started a new course on the web (completed the learning cycle for 7 words) to try it out. The course displayed ok on my app (after pulling down the screen) but it hadn’t synced my progress. I needed to log out and back in again for my progress to show.

I learned another couple of words but the same thing happened. I pulled the screen down a couple of times and left it for a couple of minutes but needed to log out from the app and back in again for my 9 learned words to show.

Maybe it’s just a delay in the syncing process.

This worked for me (a course I started recently now shows in the app after pulling down). Interestingly, I tried this on my mobile phone after having worked through my courses on my tablet and the refresh also synced the order of courses so that, now, the order is the same for both the mobile and the tablet.

Hi @dw7, can you confirm if you pulled down the course selector page to refresh it?

Phew, good news!

Please let us know if you find any other issues with this!

It looks like the issue is not completely resolved. I can’t find my course that I recently created, even after filling in the appropriate meta data, logging in/out, and completely uninstalling the app. My previous courses that I created a while back are still there though.

Replying to my own comment. I refreshed my Courses list by dragging it down!
I’m not sure how logging out and redownloading the app wouldn’t achieve the same thing, but hey! (I don’t think it’s a timing issue because the course was created a few days before my original posting).
