Spelling

How do I stop incorrect spelling from another person’s course being accepted as “correct” for my course?

I am creating a course with Finnish verbs. For at least two of the verbs I have entered the correct spelling in my course, but when you answer a question it accepts either the correct spelling or an incorrect spelling for that word. In both cases I have not added any alternative answers to my course.

The words are:
Kysyä (to ask). The course accepts both kysyä and kysya as correct.
Kylpeä (to bathe). The course accepts both kylpeä and kylpea as correct.

I have repeatedly checked both of these words in my course database and they are both entered correctly.

How do I stop incorrect answers from a different course being accepted?

they are not from a different course… many people prefer to not to have to type diacritics, accents etc

if you always want the accents etc, go into your database and in your “Finnish” column find “strict typing”

If that’s the case, why doesn’t it do this with all words that use ä or ö?

i don’t understand the question… does what?

For example, I have two different words, pelätä and pelata in the course. I have mixed these words up before and typed the wrong one, and the answer was marked as incorrect. The only difference between these words is that one has ä and the other has a. Why would the answer be marked as incorrect in this case, but if I type kysya instead of kysyä it is marked as correct?

You can leave out the accent in a non-strict typing course. But may not type an accent where there isn’t one in the answer. That is Memrise logic for you.
Also when there are more accents in one “word” you have to type all of them or none of them for the answer to be considered correct.

Thanks duaal. That makes sense based on my experience, though doesn’t sound very logical to me. I’ve had many instances when I’ve been marked as incorrect because of mixing up ä/a or ö/o. For example, one mistake I made today was to type ymmarttää instead of ymmärttää, which was marked as incorrect. The only two cases I can recall where the incorrect answer has been accepted were kysyä and kylpeä, which is why I believed it was picking up an incorrect answer from elsewhere.
