Spanish course offers wrong letters

Due to this issue it is impossible to get these words right.

Are the letters just shortcuts because people donā€™t know how to access them on the keyboard?
This is not really clear. (I remember it was different on the Android app). Really confused here

I am not sure if I understood the problem, but it seems that you donā€™t understand why there is an extra-keyboard.
Well, you type the letters using your keyboard, as usual. These letters (on the screen) are added, because it is difficult to type them, if you donā€™t have a spanish keyboard.

if you have to type ā€œholaā€ you donā€™t need the extra-keyboard (shown on the screen), but if you need for example to type ā€œEl NiƱoā€, you will need the extra-keyboard to type the Ʊ.

Thatā€™s what I suggested in my second comment. But it is irritating because it is a different behavior when the words combined with punctuation are shown. I think they could add a label or headline to better explain this.

Thanks anyways for trying to explain.

BTW: it never occurred to me that people had difficulties writing special characters since I just hit the key combo like Iā€™m used to. Also it was not clear to me that some fields allow typing and others only allow selecting words. I am not sure but I also think the android version I initially used a while a go was different.

Hi @pixelass,

Yes, the ā€˜on screenā€™ keyboards operate differently on the web version and the apps. This explanation from the Memrise ā€œKnowledge Baseā€ explains it:

http://feedback.memrise.com/knowledgebase/articles/524813-typing-in-another-language-change-keyboard

You can opt in or out of ā€œtapping testsā€ (selecting words from a pick list instead of typing the answer) in ā€˜settingsā€™:

Hope this helps.

@alanh thank you for the list of links. It makes no sense though to read the entire knowledge base prior to starting a course.

If the interface is not intuitive enough memrise should offer a guided tour or make a better interface. There are quite a few bugs all over the page so I always expect things to be more bugs especially if they differ from other versions of the app.

I think memrise has nice courses and so far Iā€™m happy with the learning but the web page/app itself is just questionable in so many ways.

I donā€™t think the Memrise people expect anyone to do that. I certainly didnā€™t. Itā€™s just there to dip into when the need arises.

We were told some time ago not to expect (or even hope for) any significant changes to the website version because Memrise are devoting their limited resources to developing the app versions (Ā£Ā£Ā£Ā£). Personally, I hardly ever use the app because I find the web version (ā€˜bugs and allā€™) much better for my needs.

By the way, there is a ā€œguided tourā€ video in the ā€œGetting Startedā€ area of the Knowledge Base.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy your time here. I do.
