Spambot accounts

There’s more following me again but I can’t even be bothered posting links anymore. I’ll do so once there’s a solution to stopping them from creating new accounts. For now i’m just going to ignore it.

balduin’s 2 followers are spam accounts too

@Lien

And 3 of his followers are also spammers, namely:

https://www.memrise.com/user/12aylar12/
https://www.memrise.com/user/alyciaricochet/
https://www.memrise.com/user/Xzumo/

I’m not sure about the other two. They could be genuine.

One of those three spammers has spam-followers, namely:

https://www.memrise.com/user/abr272/

which leads to the spammers

https://www.memrise.com/user/agustus77/
https://www.memrise.com/user/ajishgeorge/
https://www.memrise.com/user/apsamson/

and
https://www.memrise.com/user/13tjohnson/
https://www.memrise.com/user/annabolk2013/
https://www.memrise.com/user/Ivino1210/

and
https://www.memrise.com/user/anesta/
https://www.memrise.com/user/msandrea/

https://www.memrise.com/user/MohibJan/
https://www.memrise.com/user/shane2076/
https://www.memrise.com/user/yekzade/

https://www.memrise.com/user/Asafbuch/
https://www.memrise.com/user/katjagrocott/

So, the spammers seem to spam themselves too.

It’s not so much about spamming the people their following. Rather, they’re just trying to leave as many links as possible in as many different places as possible, so it doesn’t matter if those links are on the pages of other spammers or not.

you’re of course right, but i more intended it as a joke
in the meantime i still wonder whether they really attain their goal with those fake accounts
it looks to me as if they’re really desperate for visitors

Interestingly enough, the same thing just seems to have started happening on Duolingo: https://www.duolingo.com/Isha523471

FAKE: https://www.memrise.com/user/66cherrylipsmeow/

Leads to followers:
HACKED: https://www.memrise.com/user/e407/
FAKE: https://www.memrise.com/user/themistoclesdt/

The two followers seem to also be followed by many “HACKED normal Memrise user accounts” besides some created FAKE accounts!!!
Even some normal (following) user accounts, which I checked, have some announcement URLs in their edited profiles.
The hacked accounts have also been following those spam bots.

I noticed that e407 did not have made any mems,
maybe it’s a new type of fake account

With 9 added courses, two PT BR, and this statistic, I would not guess so.

2,365 Words
1,812,920 Points

true,but still
all of those spammers are waisting lots of time, amd maybe they’re trying a new system
but if the accounts are hacked, then how did they do that?
did they hack the memrise account itself, or the e-mail account used to make the memrise account?

If my Memrise or e-mail accounts get hacked any time, I would not be happy if the Memrise staff would simply delete my account with several thousand of learned words, multiple courses and points…that’s for sure.

Maybe that is the real intent of the spammers, to finally be able to hurt normal Memrise users as well, if they just change their user profiles, by hacking their accounts?

Tell me honestly: How often do you check your user profile for an updated text?

If you check the user spam accounts you can see that almost no words have been learned and not many points have been gained.

The “new spammer concept” seems to be to add fake pictures as well, as with:

  • no profile picture
  • no / only one course
  • 0 / a few words
  • almost no points

it is quite easy to determine if a freshly created account is falling into the spammer category.
