In the grand scheme of things this probably isn’t hugely important, but what happened to the old theme of running a little “garden” while you learnt words? That all seemed to disappear when Ziggy the space Pokemon thingy was introduced. There seems to be a theme of aliens and space now (or on the app at least) and I think Memrise has lost some of its charm since then. What do you think?

I agree @TobyDoodler but they wont change Ziggy and the space theme seems to be working well. And yes Memrise was good at first but when adding too many features it has lost its charm

I don’t know why I’m saying this, but when I was first introduced to the gardening theme, I had this weird inkling that the flowers would transform into building-crushing monsters if you watered them enough. I was disappointed shortly afterwards, even though I always knew it wasn’t true, but there you go. If they ever put more elements from the original gardening theme into the program, I wouldn’t mind if the flowers did something wild like that. At least, to me it sounds like it could be a compromise with the space theme.
Seems to me it’d be nice if you could choose between the space theme and the garden theme. I know I’d love to be able to opt in to the old ranking system with the cheesy puns and the colorful brains. I miss the brains.

Maybe we could set up a poll for a NEW theme? Should I do that? @Lien if this WILL be official can you invite users to it so they can vote?

As an alternative to outer space or gardening, there could be something like a “zoo theme,” where when people level up they acquire more exotic animals, as well as keep the ones they’ve already acquired. (I would especially appreciate it if that theme had Godzilla or some other kaiju-esque beast on some of the higher levels, but everyone probably knows that already.)
And it certainly sounds easier to implement than the other alternative that came to mind: a city-building theme. That one was basically an idea where people get to create highly visual mind-maps using elements they acquire as they gain experience, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that that’s very complicated, and would likely not be used the way I’m imagining…

) I had been part of the Duolingo forum for some time but I noticed that everyone was not so friendly and most of them got mad when someone went off topic and I didn’t have so many friends. But when I discovered the Memrise forum, I felt like I was actually part of the community! And now I’m glad I joined and now have met so many people that share the same opinions with me, Like you and Izzi! And other nice people I have met

Yes, I wish people spoke of their experiences and all on Memrise more often. It would make me heaps more motivated, since languages are not really natural for me!
@IzzyFaith09 I was part of the Duo forum since 2016, but whenever I wrote something, I got so many negative answers, I didn’t even understand why! They’d get annoyed at me if I didn’t get the difference between two similar words, and asked for advice, so I just stopped writing on there altogether.
But it’s a relief, that i’m not the only one feeling this way!

I still like the Memrise forum better than Duolingo, even though this one is used not so much, because everyone is very welcoming and is eager to help out and it’s great to see so many people get to know each other

I’ve never heard of that type of lizard before, It sound really cool! I don’t have any lizards but I really want one. I see some in my backyard but they’re small and hard to catch, Me and my sister named one Buddy

I don’t mean “catching” in the sense of getting them but in the sense of “perceiving”. Did you observe if they communicate with noises, maybe hissing or specific movements?

That’s why it’s so much easier learning Spanish and Portuguese, because they have SOOO many similarities.
