"Sorry, there was an error loading the session" - cannot complete course

Sony Xperia X, Android 8.0.0, memrise 2.94_6875 (same progression issue for several months though)

Chinese GCSE all units

Section 12, unit 3.1 Public transport (listening)
There’s an error with this section. I get “Sorry, there was an error loading the session.” and I can’t complete it.

Section 39, unit 8.3 School (listening)
Same issue as unit 3.1

I can try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the app and all associated data to rule that out if someone can let me know how to do that. I’ve tried force stop, remove data and cache and deleting a folder called “memrise backup” or something from the storage, then uninstalling, but it looks as if something remains somewhere because when I reinstall I don’t even need to log back in.

I’ve had something similar and it was because some entries in the course were invalid (empty translation field in that case). Could be something similar in your case. Could you post the link? Perhaps it is possible to ask the creator about it.

It’s also possible that the course has a ‘forum’ thread: search for 'Course Forum Chinese and check if it lists your specific course (there are many Chinese courses). If a there one for your course, ask there and you’d have better chance of success.

Thanks John,

There is a sub-forum for that course - I created it a few months ago as I could not find an existing one

I will tag the course creator @James.H on here and in the course forum.

Now I am getting “error loading the session” on a couple more courses, both of which I already completed a few months ago and I have been just reviewing to keep the review count down to 0. I have also lost some progress on each one:

Chinese Grammar Wiki A1, which has gone down to 255/257

Mandarin Chinese 2, which has gone down to 703/706

I have lost even more progress on Chinese GCSE all units vocabulary (the one that I had virtually completed but was blocked on) which has jumped back to 1226/1368 with the error still there too.

I tried uninstall, reboot and reinstall but it did not help.

Interestingly, the three courses seem to be OK with no loss of progression if I view them through the website on a computer. I had to ignore two words from Chinese GCSE all units vocabulary which were missing the speaker icon next to them. Presumably the app expects you to listen to these but never finds the audio file and that causes the error:

Section 12, unit 3.1 Public transport (listening) IGNORE “bike (colloquial)”

Section 39, unit 8.3 School (listening) IGNORE “GCSE”

Still having the same problem on the phone app, even after: ignoring words on desktop website, checking those three courses are showing as complete on desktop, uninstall app, reboot phone, reinstall app.
