Some issues I have with memrise

First, I can’t see a way to contact course creator in case when it has errors. Or just report errors in course somehow. (Other thread says the feature was removed and you have to report it somewhere on forum, which sounds ridiculous.)

Second, some courses have repeats like this:
Huomenta! — Доброе утро!
Hyvää huomenta! — Доброе утро!
And when it comes to repeating and it shows “Доброе утро!” and both Finnish variants, how should I guess? This just recently happened to me by the way. Yes, it is probably up to creator, but still some workaround could be developed too.

Third, repeated words on different courses. If I already know some word from one course, system could detect that and don’t force me to learn this word again on another course. It would just require list of words learned by certain person and cross comparison when person enters course.

Some rating system for courses would be cool because sometimes it is hard to tell if course is good.

It is true that the forums used to be directly linked to each and every word in a course and any issues with a word could be instantly reported. For whatever reason, this function was removed and we now have these forums. I wouldn’t say the forums are “ridiculous”, though, because there is now a private-message function which is nice for getting to know fellow language learners one-to-one.

It is not hugely difficult to use the “language quarters” part of the forum. You just look for your lanugage - Finnish in your case? - and then scroll through the posts looking for the forum for your course. If there isn’t one, create one and then tag @MemriseSupport to ask if the course creator is active on the forum. If they aren’t, you then can ask to be made a so-called course contributor. With this status, you can access the database for the course and make any necessary changes.

The problem of what I personally call “false synonyms” plagues just about every language course here and can be extremely annoying to the learner. However, there are a number of workarounds that course creators and contributors (myself included) have found. People disagree as to what is the best solution, but that is fine. Everybody can deal with this problem as they wish, but it is possible to make it easier for learners to choose the correct solution for similar words.

There is an easy solution to this problem: use the “ignore” function which appears at the top of each level. Then you can go through a level and simply click on “ignore” for words you already know. Memrise absolutely does not “FORCE” anyone to learn things they don’t want to learn.

I think this would be difficult, as different people have different preferences. Some people might like courses that offer single-word definitions for words (in language courses); others, like me, might want more detailed descriptions, maybe with examples in L2 (as I do) and so on and so forth.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have a rating system that used some kind of objective criteria, such as “has good audio” or “no audio provided”. Or “lots of mems available” to “no mems available” and so on.

If you don’t like a course, it is no problem to stop using it, you don’t lose any points you have got.

If there was a button to simply drop notes to the course creator, one wouldn’t need to seek and / or create a forum to simply drop, “Mate, you’ve got a typo in your translation of Koala.”

It must be easy for the course creator to report it if anybody drops an abusive comment.
