Some feature suggestions

Not sure if “bug control” is the best place to post this, but there is no feature suggestion category and I’m not sure if staff check other categories and would see this. My suggestions:

  1. Allow users to clone other users’ courses so that they can e.g. customize them, add more words, change test direction etc.

I asked about this on Twitter but I was told “you can do this with your own courses” and “you could become a course contributor if you want to edit.” However, I have come across courses before from other users’ which I have wanted to tweak for my own purposes, where becoming a course contributor seems like too much (also, inactive users wouldn’t be able to approve this). Also course owners might not want you to change the testing direction just to suit your learning method.

However, I think there should be an option for course owners to allow people to clone or not in case some people want to keep their courses to themselves.

  2. More powerful / custom manual reviewing tools.

I think it would be helpful to be able to choose certain topics to review to a further extent than which is currently possible (i.e. reviewing outside of SRS). For example, I might want to study a selection of random words from Course Name from only the levels (or excluding the levels) Introduction and Beginner Phrases. Or maybe random words from multiple chosen courses of the same language.

  3. Multiple owners / admins of groups - self-explanatory

Memrise doesn’t typically respond to user suggestions.

  1. If a course creator is inactive, Memrise is often willing to add a member as a contributor, but that is usually when someone is volunteering to maintain a course, correct errors, extend the course, etc, not re-design the testing direction. But to redesign how the course works, such as changing the testing direction, you do need to make a new course.

  2. On the web, you can review outside of SRS, on a whole-course level or level-by-level, by clicking on the “Review” button. If the button is blue, you get SRS. If the button is white, you get a random review anyway. Speed review may also give you what you are looking for. If you want to do this while excluding certain levels, you could manually “ignore” those levels, and un-ignore them after your review. Ordinarily, for best learning results, I would suggest that you trust Memrise’s SRS features instead of trying to bypass them, or that you do your additional practice/review in a completely different format such as reading the newspaper, our writing words out by hand.
