[Site Feedback] What happened to the "report" link?

The “report” link that used to take you straight to the relevant forum to query about a particular word you were learning has disappeared from all my courses now. The forums are still working as far as I can see so you can still post questions there manually, but is there some good reason for removing this link? Or is it just me?

seems gone from several courses

if this is an update, it is again a very bad one

I have just been looking for this. I find this EXTREMELY frustrating that you can’t report an error (to the course creator), while you’re on that screen. Memrise - please fix this!!!

could we have an answer on this, please, memrise team?

It’s AWFUL — it seems that with any new change the Memrise gets more and more unfriendly, it seems to turn all its effort against learners!
Can we have a clear answer at least on this particular issue?

Oh dear! I hadn’t noticed it has gone as I usually learn on the many courses I’ve created or am supporting as a Contributor (or “Curator” or “Custodian”), so if I spot a problem I go to the edit.

This must be very new I’ve always responded to posts that way up to a few days ago.

How can users contact the creators now?

I have just seen this link (hope it works for you)

About the Non-language courses - Reports and requests category

My thanks too Olivia, but I would like to add that the first place (IMHO) to point out concerns or errors with a course is in the Course Forum which should be picked up by the course Creator or Contributor.

I am now the “Custodian” or “Curator” (my terminology) of several abandoned courses (or those where the Creator has lost interest but is happy for me to deal with any issues).

without realising it had gone!

So PLEASE can you reinstate it or courses will not be corrected unless someone goes to an area in the Forum and sifts thousands of posts.

Personally it’s hard enough get people to be enthusiastic enough to report it in an easy fashion so I doubt that in the middle of learning or watering they will fire up this area.

Yeah, no-one’s going to do that. I’m guessing they want to limit usage of the old forums and perhaps fade them out later.

So an alternative then could be that the “report” button directly takes you to this new forum and starts a topic for you with the course name as its title and the @author and @contributors mentioned in the text… Or maybe a group private message to all the contributors…

Thankfully I have read and seen that the Forum button is still available on the course as is all the material previously posted, however, I think it’s so good to be able to report an error immediately via a simple button when one gets something “wrong”.

Re your suggestion Arete_Hime, I see two problems:

  1. I would not wish to be advised of problems on every course (as I look after 'only ’ 150 or so - and that is enough)

  2. Not every Creator or Contributor, will be active in the Forum or this thread, so would never see the reported error posted here.

However your idea would work if the notification only went to the course creator and contributors automatically. However would they bother to sign up just to do that.

Also I find that at the end of watering I have forgotten the specific thing I wanted to report, so it’s best to be immediate IMHO.

So MemRise team, please can it be reinstated.

I noticed it was missing too. This is really needed to get courses up to scratchl quality will suffer without this.
If it is a feature that’s in the process of updating, please automatically add the level of the entry in the course.

Come on, guys! No one is interested in destructive changes to the interface that we use every day?

Actually there is another thread about that on the forum, here : [Site Feedback] "report" items link on the learning/presentation page

People are also discussing this problem there, that may explain the low number of replies.

You are right @Onesmy.

I wonder if one of the ‘supervisors’ could merge the two threads?

I am pretty new to the site and I was wondering how to report errors in several courses I have seen to the point of wanting to ask if I could become a course contributor to fix them but there is really no way to contact them.
If you aren’t going to make creators accountable or available then you need to put into some kind of way to submit corrections by users that can be checked quickly via google or something. Because leaving the errors is bad for the students of the courses.

Hi @Angelbratt,

The first place to look is in the relevant area of the “Language Quarters” : http://community.memrise.com/c/language-quarters or, for non-language courses, in the “Community Hub” : http://community.memrise.com/c/community-hub. The forum search tool, in the top right corner, is quite good.

If you can’t find a topic for the relevant course, it may mean that the course creator hasn’t yet joined this new forum. What you can then do is to ask Lien from the Memrise team to email the creator and invite them to this forum and, if the creator doesn’t respond, to make you a course contributor. Just tag Lien (by adding a “@” in front of her username and provide a link to the course in question when making your request.

Good luck!

Hi @Angelbratt,

In addition to @alanh’s good advice above, before contacting the MemRise team, I go to private messages and type @joebloggs (or even just joebloggs), where joebloggs is the creator of the course.

This is a way of checking if they have actually visited this new forum.

If their name comes up, then you can contact them, even if they haven’t created a “[Course Forum]” yet.

@DW7 i was talking about the genki 1 by caleb.warwick actually. there are a lot of genki courses but his was the most complete that I could find. there isn’t a course forum set up and there’s no way for users to contact him so i have sent a message to Lien in the forum mentioning it but they haven’t gotten back to me nad the course forum still hasn’t been set up yet so I’m really just waiting for something to happen.

For completeness here is a link to his three courses:

I have no idea if he is still active but the MemRise team can investigate that for you.
