This is something that happens when I encounter a new word. I get the word right, and ten seconds later (or at least that’s what it feels like) the same word comes up again. Similarly, I’ve been tested three times in the past few minutes on the same word, and each time I got the answer right. Why do I have to repeat a fourth time something that I clearly know? Do you think I will have forgotten so quickly?
I understand that the seed has to grow a stem, leaves and petals before becoming a full plant, but is there a way to put more time between reviews in these first encounters? For example, is there a way to combine learning new words with reviewing old ones?
Is my question clear, and does anyone else find this annoying?
Memrise is a SRS- learning method. When you learned how to write, as a child, did you not know all characters immediatelly after you saw them for the first time? I have to learn my Chinese words and idioms 30 times each, sometimes much less, sometimes much more
OK, German is easy peasy in comparison; however the mainstream in psy of learning claims that each new item/basic unit to be learned has to be repeated at least 5-6 times at the beginning, to even get a slight chance to flow into the middle term memory… ‘mainstream’ is indeed just another word for the ‘power of habit’, however…
Problem is the same program has to work for all types of people. For me, the interval is sometimes much too long. I wish they had a slider from [BRILLIANT <--------------||-----> DUMBASS] so I could better use this.
Amen! I think we should have more options, such as “don’t review until it’s gone at least ___ days.” In some courses, such as cloze tests I’ve made for private use, I don’t need nor want that many repetitions. It’s such cases it’s far more effective with fewer repetitions and more questions.
General customizability for paying customers, is what I’d like.
