[Site Feedback] Does anyone prefer the old forums layout?

I do. I don’t really like the look of the new forum. I’m glad there’s now more forums of course, but the old layout was much better in my opinion. Does anyone else think so too?

I think it’s just that we’re all used to the previous one. The search function is something that was really missing on the previous forum, and this one is easier to navigate with all the different categories.

On the other hand, I don’t really like the way the forum is “integrated” with the rest of the website, so if that’s what you meant I agree with you. The appearance of this new forum isn’t so similar to the one of the main website, but I guess that may be difficult to change with Discourse. This just feels a bit weird for now.

I think this new discussion site is a big improvement:

  • Multiple categories that can all be viewed together or separately.

  • Searching

  • Private messaging

  • Easy quoting and other formatting options make comments easier to read

  • Preview while you type, and the ability to scroll the thread as you type your reply, makes it easier to write

I vastly prefer this over the old forums, for many of the same reasons as mentioned by @cos. As @Onesmy mentioned, it may be that we are all just used to the original. I will admit that the original is a bit less busy, so I can understand if someone finds the new layout bothersome.

this format is a bit too busy, does not really allow an overview. However, it is an improvement - although it nicely obscures compalints and bug reports… it is very easy to spot them not :-

To increase visibility of posts, you can tag posts. ALL CAPS of course also works. And you can also add :rage: (smilies) to titles. You could even try to convince someone to pin topics. If staff wants to ignore posts, there’s of course nothing we can do, in old forum or new.

Bug reports are now undoubtedly more visible, in its own category.

I have always been a fan of traditional forums, so this is much better than the old forum in my opinion. Even if we leave all the additional features out that this forum provides, I like the overall design far more.
