Site Boycott - Shutdown User Made Courses Dec 30 - Jan 1st

A few years ago I was going to buy a memorize membership but they made some radicle changes with the course search engine and took away options for finding user made courses. At that point the memorize crew decided to also start traveling around Europe and spending money on things that didn’t necessarily improve the site as a self learning tool. In this time, or anytime since, no effort was made to contact contributors about their thoughts or opinions. Many of us spend hundreds of volunteer hours building & maintaining our own classes and proofing others work in an effort to have the best possible classes. Our sites were buried and all our investment was disregarded. What I suggest is that all the users that have a course with more then a thousand users shut down your courses to the public’s use for a few days in order to protest all the recent changes. Additionally, in the event they delete my “years” old account, it has been fun learning with you all. My larger courses will be shut down this weekend and be reopened sometime next week. Please join me in order that we show how much we care for the future of this site. Just maybe if they listen, I’ll finally join. Happy New Years! - Wilderness.

But you do know that anyone already taking the courses won’t be affected?

Yes I know, the point is that Memorize needs to get the point that user input is important to maintain the site. In many of the other posts, the overriding issue is that Memorize works in a vacuum. The purpose of the boycott is to bring attention to the issue. When any business doesn’t support their base, the life of the company shortens. With the discontent shown throughout the various forums and the lack of information put out by Memorize, it’s obvious, there is an issue. At this point, I believe that the best way to keep the company strong is to involve the people that got it here in the first place. As far as the course not being shut down to the current enrollees, not a problem. Those students will read the boycott intro at the top of the class that points them to the forum and hopefully vent their frustrations here. I imagine Memorize might pay attention if enough folks like or comment on this topic. Thanks for the comment.

My absolute and 100% support for Wilderness. Thousands of us do not use only the official courses but also a lot of user created ones. Especially for languages that are not supported by Memrise with an official course. I don’t understand their idea with shutting off and let’s say it directly - killing hundreds of great and useful courses. It’s completely senceless.

Thanks to everyone taking my classes for bearing with me through this. Been ticked off for a while that we don’t have a voice. I would love to join but without a solid public forum in what the course should be focused on, no clear answer to how that money is improving or maintaining the course and lack of a newsletter, I think I will abstain.

I hope everyone has a wonderful new years!!
