Siihen asti?

One one of the Finnish courses I maintain, I’ve run across the phrase “siihen asti”, and I’m a bit suspicious of the definition given in the course. Can anyone here tell us what you would translate this as, and how it would be used in sentences?

I would translate it as up until then.

Koe oli helmikuussa. Hän kävi koulua siihen asti. The exam was in February. He went to school up until then.
Menen naimisiin ensi viikolla. Laihdutan siihen asti. I will marry next week. I will be on a diet up until then.
Vaalit ovat keskiviikkona. Puolueet lupaavat kaikkea maan ja taivaan väliltä siihen asti. The elections are on Wednesday. The parties will promise anything up until then.

I hope this helps.

This does help.

In the course where I saw it, this phrase is given as meaning “therefore” - which makes me want to type “joten” as the answer  Before I change it, I’d like to understand if it can ever be used to mean “therefore”, or if that’s just a mistake?

I cannot think of any sentence where it would mean therefore. That, of course, does not mean that such sentences do not exist.

Thanks, @Zzzzz !

@sehirati, if you ever visit this forum - I made this change in the http://www.memrise.com/course/99695/3000-most-common-finnish-words/
