Any suggestions how to make a sequential learning course such as memorizing poetry and verses from beginning to end? Are there any constructs available to prompt only from beginning to forward and start from beginning if the user hits a point where he or she does not remember the next line?
you’re askingabout pedagogy and things they learn you when you want to become a schoolteacher
just take a look at a good text book on learning poetry or literature
No. See question. I’m asking about techniques how to set up a sequential course for memorizing texts.
I don’t think there’s a built-in way to do this with Memrise. However, I remember reading a recommendation on a different SRS site to do SRS questions for memorizing poems by splitting the poem into pieces and then doing cloze on it.
For example:
Question 1: “Twinkle, twinkle little star …” (answer: “how I wonder what you are”)
Question 2: “How I wonder what you are …” (answer: “Up above the world so high”)
Question 3: “Up above the world so high …” (answer: “Like a diamond in the sky”)
When you were tested, it would be out of order most of the time, but the idea was that doing things this way woud actually help you remember the poem better, because if you lost your place while reciting, you wouldn’t have to recite through the entire poem again in order to pick up where you left off.
It sounds logical, but I haven’t tried it.
I remember taking this course a while back. It was something along the lines of what you are referring to. I think it is probably about as close as one can come to sequential lines in Memrise.
Thx for all the input. I will test this out. Otherwise, this all could be done if there was an ordering tag in the database so that the answers have a numeric order that needs to be maintained. If not then the questions start from the beginning.
I could make one line per lecture but any repetitions of prior lectures are again out of sync.

multiple thumbs up for any type of numeric ordering ! It would make a lot of people’s lives easier, and open up a myriad of new learning possibilities in Memrise.
Best of luck to you in your tests/studies. Have a good day !
