Rough scroll, as opposed to smooth

Has anyone else noticed that scrolling your home page is no longer a smooth experience as it used to be? It stops for a few seconds after 3 or 4 courses as though it needed to load the subsequent courses. Not strictly a bug but it’s not a pleasant experience. Makes the web feel somewhat “dated”. :disappointed:

OS: Windows 7
Since: the database “fix” (3 or 4 weeks ago?)

Yeah the courses load 4 at a time now, I know because it had a side effect of breaking a chrome extension I wrote :frowning: My guess is it’s a ‘performance improvement’ but I agree with you that it takes a lot away from the user experience of the home page.

@ChiewPang Before the improvement, only 20 courses were displayed on the dashboard. You were unable to view any other courses you were enrolled in, this also caused the dashboard to be slow. Depending on the overall learning progress and size of your course, the dashboard may take some time to load.

@cooljingle The improvement reduced the amount of courses being loaded on the dashboard at one go.

Tip: For users who are learning several courses, you don’t need to wait for the courses to appear on the dashboard before scrolling down again. Just keep scrolling down, it will load much faster.

@Joshua, yes, I do that but it’s an awful experience. Like a car spluttering. And for a few seconds I wonder where I am and end up scrolling back and forth…:disappointed:

In any case, now that I’m aware that it loads 4 courses at a time, I use Advance page and wait, instead of scrolling. Less of an eye-sore. :sunglasses:

It’s basically like the scrolling experience on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. Their page won’t load more items until the cursor hits to the bottom (or near bottom). I think it’s just a trend of major sites or modern UI design. The only thing that can make a difference is the speed to load more items. If it loads new items fast enough, the scrolling won’t feel as sluggish.
