Review changed

A few days ago I noticed a reduced number of words to review. Usually, with my speed of learning, I get 30-50 words to review every day. But now I have only words from the previous day to review. Did Memrise change the algorithm for spaced repetition? Have you noticed something like that?
I have been using Memrise since 2015 and I can tell the difference.

Good catch, I noticed the same (across a whole bunch of courses), but I thought I’d be imagining things!

@MemriseSupport: can you provide any insight? And, BTW: are you guys all on a longer vacation? No replies for quite a while, and, checking your account, I see that you haven’t posted anything since May 2 (over 2 months)!?

Well, today everything seemed normal again. Have you noticed anything, @mary_platt?

As for what might have been causing the impression: sadly, Memrise always includes the time portion when querying items up for review. This can have the effect that, if you start a bit early on one day, you’ll see less items up for review. On the next day though, you’ll see the ones you would have wanted to see the day before.
Most annoyingly, it can result in new words for review showing up in batches (i. e., first you review, say, 30 words, when done you’ll see 5, do those, then 3, a. s. o.) if you’re just a tiny bit earlier on one day compared to the day before …

I know what you mean with the part of the day but the last week was not an usual situation with reviewing.
Now I have 35 words to review which is close to normal. Will see tomorrow how many there’ll be.

Well, yesterday I again had the feeling that my review queue was showing fewer words than usual.

I was actuallly an hour late (I usually start at around 7:00am, yesterday it was around 8:10), so I should have actually seen more words than usual, but the opposite was the case.

Today I startet at around 7:50 and had a whole bunch of courses that showed quite a few more words than usual. It felt like I was being presented with many words that should’ve been up for review yesterday.

I currently work through 56 courses every day, including courses with thousands of words and 5 official Memrise courses (most of them 1-7), only 6 are unfinished, the rest is just being reviewed.

Have you, @mary_platt or has someone else noticed anything similar?

You could check review dates on the website, I don’t see anything unusual in this regard.

Not sure what I could check on the website? I compared the review-count of the fist dozen or so courses between app and web and they were all equal.

You can learn a group of words and then check them on the website to see review interval. For the first learning round it should be 12 hours or so.

For me, Memreise changed the algorithm. I study only one course now but I learned 1200 words from it, 3-6 words every day. This usually produces ~50 words for review. Now I have one day 20-30, three days words only from the previous day.
I’ve learned 5 languages in maybe more than 50 courses on Memrise. There is definitely a change.
Maybe because I don’t have a subscription?

It’s unlikely. From what I see in my courses it’s the same reviewing algorithm. But if you want to know for sure you can keep an eye on a group of words and check them before and after review, see how your review intervals are changing. If I’m not wrong, it goes like 12 hours, 1 day, 3, 7, 14, 28, 48, 90, 180 days.

@Hombre_sin_nombre, thank you. I will check the review intervals with the new words.
