The method of learning in the regular course just needs a little help, in my opinion. I see that you can initially get Japanese audio -> English translation type tests. However, there’s no bridge test for English -> Japanese hiragana. It goes straight to expecting you to learn the kanji. Learning the kanji should be a separate test. I do think there’s value in learning them right away, but having this extra test type would make the cognitive overload less, and learning all the aspects of listening, speaking, reading (and well, not writing) get covered.
