Report and remove user created meme in the Multiplication Tables

Hi, not sure how to report this but my daughter (10 years old) was going through the multiplication tables course, and in 7x1 there is a meme entitled “equals 7 got attacked by pitbull” by user jonnyboykilla9. This is a picture a mauled face and is extremely graphic. As you can imagine, this was very traumatic for my daughter. On further investigation this is not the only unsuitable meme in this course. Memrise is a fantastic product and was really helping my daughter but now i can’t let her use it. How do we remove these memes/users and get this back to family friendly?

There has been previous discussion of ‘offensive’ mems. You’ll find it if you use the search tool.

It’s a subjective topic that gets some people quite hot under the collar. The simplest thing to do, if you come across a mem that you find ‘offensive’, is to ‘flag’ it and you will then not see it again (but it will remain for its originator and others to see, unless a Memrise moderator decides to remove it). And, yes, there is an argument about ‘not being able to unsee something once it has been seen’. Flagging is explained here: http://feedback.memrise.com/knowledgebase/articles/524915-what-do-i-do-if-i-find-an-offensive-mem

You might also want to take another look at the Memrise Terms of Use, which require users to be at least 13 years of age.

I agree, those mems are extremely graphic and disgusting. I have removed this mem and another which i spotted.

Also, please look at the message above created by @alanh.

Thanks.

Besides reporting any offensive mems via the report button (does that work @joshua?), to ensure your daughter never sees any offensive mem, you can also go through the course level by level and “preview” the words and choose a suitable mem yourself. Or you can (for this word or for this course(?) or in general(?)) choose to “Go Without a Mem”

The above is from memory. As I don’t use the feature there are probably mistakes in there.

Thanks guys, I wouldn’t call that meme offensive, more extremely graphic, and not suitable for a 13 or 18+ year old without prior warning and agreement. I had tried to flag in the android app, which is my main use of Memrise but couldn’t find a way to do that, nor turn memes off, but i’ll check through the forum. Thanks again.

You can’t flag or turn off mems from within the app. You’ll need to do it from the website.

We’re working on a solution but in the meantime you’ll have to either manually flag every mem deemed inappropriate or choose to go without mems.

it would be nice if there was an ignore button…?

but there are many people who do not really understand what inapropiate really means and feel offended by anything… how will you solve that?
