Removing all words and replacing

Hi, I am creating my own course from phrases I learn in Spanish.

I import them from a google doc, which I do through he Memrise interface. But I often update my spreadsheet. So, my method is: Create new level. Delete old level. Reimport.

But then it leaves some old words hanging around. e.g. I changed my spreadsheet to all lower case, but still it gives me options of “Hola” or “hola” and the Hola choice will be marked as wrong.

  1. Is there a way to start the course from a true clean state every time I reimport?

  2. Is there a more efficient method for what I’m doing?

  3. I have disabled typing tests, but they still appear on my phone app. Is there another setting somewhere please to make it multiple choice purely?

Many thanks

I can really only answer 1) - and the answer is that every entry you ever committed to the database will be there forever - every spelling mistake, every difference in capitalisation, every incorrect copy/past from google docs (I also use them as a backstop) will forever be there, and will be occasionally presented as an option

Hi, @Kit_Ibz.

If I understand correctly, you’re re-importing previous entries each time, and thus resetting the learning progress each time?

If so, you might want to have a look at your course’s database, as every time the progress is reset for a previous item, it means that it added a new entry to the database.

You can access the database by having at least two levels in the course and opening the “Databases” drop-down menu towards the top of the course-editing screen. There may be some old entries there that you could delete.

mthierst is correct though that previous versions of items tend to linger around indefinitely in the multiple choice options. There are some promising ideas on how to handle that in this topic, though I have yet to personally test them.

Alternatively, if you are resetting the learning progress for each import, you could simply delete the database each time and start fresh. This should wipe all of the history for the multiple choice selection, as I believe it’s specific to the database. Don’t do this if I’m misunderstanding you though, and you aren’t resetting the progress each time, as you will lose all items and progress when you delete the database.

If you use different database everytime this should not be a problem. Do you create a new database prior each import?

To both of the previous replies, how can I “reset the database” without creating a new course?

I have searched really hard but can’t figure this out. So I appreciate your time.

Hi @Kit_Ibz! First you’ll need to create at least 1 more level. Then you can access database and you can make as many new databases as you want. And delete old databases if you don’t want them.

If you need some screenshots how do do that just ask
