Re: About the Memrise Announcements category

Continuing the discussion from About the Memrise Announcements category:

Right, I saw that - if you hover over the shield, it says “this user is a moderator”. But is that the same thing as memrise staff? Couldn’t there be moderators now or in the future who are regular users memrise decided to make into moderators? Couldn’t there be memrise staff who aren’t mods here?

Or maybe not - maybe “moderator” is exactly “memrise staff”, and never shall the two sets diverge. But if so, how is a user to know that? It’s ambiguous even if it is true.

P.S. Topics getting closed constantly is a curse of this forum, and the only significant way so far in which I think the old forum was superior. I can’t even put this reply in the same category is the comment it’s a reply to, because it’s in a topic I can’t create posts in.

Only staff being able to post in that category is fitting. And all topics in that category are set to auto-close in 7 days I think. You can argue about if you agree with that I guess. This particular topic should have perhaps been treated differently, either being closed from the start, or not auto-closed.

I think the ‘moderator’ moniker is a non-issue. Yes, probably non-staff shall never be granted ‘moderator’ status, and you can tell who is ‘moderator’ or ‘admin’ (I think) by the shield next to the name. If you want to reduce confusion, don’t refer to ‘leaders’ or ‘regulars’ as ‘moderators’, because they are not, according to Discourse nomenclature.

I know that, but it’s yet another way in which closed topics cause trouble.

Here I have no idea what you’re talking about.

What I asked was, who are the memrise staff, and why aren’t they labelled as staff when they post. Someone (I can’t see who it is when I’m on this new post, apparently) said the staff members we know are labelled as moderators, but I pointed out that doesn’t answer the question for two reasons: 1) we don’t know whether all staff are moderators and all moderators will be staff, for sure, and 2) even if it is true that moderators = staff (which we don’t know will always be the case, but even if it were to always be the case), it’s not a clear label, and other users won’t know it.

I’m not referring to leaders or regulars as moderators, that has nothing to do with it.

Oh… Erm. I agree that a label next to the name, like “Staff,” would be most helpful. We know that this can be done as @joshua has a “Bug Artist” (I think it is) label next to his name as well.

If this is the topic of this post, the title isn’t clear. And as I think this is a feature suggestion, how about I move it to the next best thing, the bug section?

Only Memrise staff will have a moderator shield beside their name.

@Joshua - oh, hey, your name now says “Staff” next to it in lighter gray. That’s new! I think that takes care of this issue.
