I have been using MemRise on the web for over 5 years and am very familiar with all the (changing) issues in creating and using courses as well as those raised here in the Forum.
Recently I have tried using the Android app on a smart phone (a very different experience).
I have discovered on this course https://www.memrise.com/course/22129/who-painted-me/ (though probably not unique) a problem.
When I learn or test on a level on the web, I am tested say with painter’s/ artist’s name and his painting (and vice versa) - no problem.
When I so the same on the app (numbering of levels are different because of no multimedia levels) I usually get the expected pairing BUT
-
I can be shown a painting and have to choose from three sound clips of artist’s name including the actual artist (this is not a problem but unexpected - as this testing method has not been set up on this course I look after) but
-
I have also been shown the artist’s name (as text) and presented with three sound clips of peoples names! This is rather too easy and not a test of which painting he painted!
I realise I can turn off the sound feature but not many people may know that or even want to do that for fear of it being global.
I have raised this with @lien already.
Can anyone else confirm this issue - obviously it’s got to be a course where sound is a third relevant column of information.
As an aside :
typing a name when shown a painting is the ultimate test
pairing a name when shown a painting can be one of 8 choices
finding a painting when shown a name is one of 4 choices
finding the name of the artist of a painting shown, from an audio clip of people’s names (including his name) is one of 3 choices
finding his (audio) name when shown his (text) name is child’s play.
