Problem with Tsu, Tu, つ & まちがつています

Hello my fellow language learners!

I’d like to post about a problem I’ve encountered; I don’t know if it’s on my end or the web/applications… Basically (for now I’ve only seen it on the website ver.) when the test “Am Wrong” comes up (Correct answer is Ma,Chi,Ga,Tsu(Tu?),Te,i,Ma,Su) comes up, I always get the “wrong” answer even though it looks like I was correct (まちがつています ー I’m sorry but it’s just so satisfying typing in Japanese, I’ll stop now)

I have a few pictures as evidence to my accord…:

Other than that though, it’s been a great learning experience, using Memrise! I even bought the pro solely to respect and support the creators; the extra features are great as well.

Since I’m a new user I could only post a single picture in a post, so here’s another one with the full sentence completed:

Hi, @Minion_Block!

The つ in that word is actually a little っ, which serves the different purpose of doubling the next consonant. Try typing “ma chi ga tte i ma su”, and it should give you the little っ.

Good luck with your studies, and feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

Oh my, you’re totally right! I thought it was a problem with the website because when I type it in english (ma,chi,ga,tsu,te,i,ma,su) it considers it correct!

Thanks for the tip!!!

Happy to help!

Yeah, it’s a bit of a quirk on Memrise’s end that it accepts “tsu” (and even requires it in some cases) for the little っ when typing in romaji. That’s one of the reasons why I’d recommend sticking to typing in Japanese as much as you can.

Happy learning!

Yeah. tu and tsu both come up as つ.
xtu comes up as っ.

Most input methods however will convert double consonants to the proper characters.
