Problem with Japanese course, "It's over 9000! words with audio"

Course : Its over 9000!!! words with audio.

When learning new words I only get quizzed on pronunciation and never on meaning anymore, whether on Decks or Memrise (browser, Chrome).

Please fix this mess soon. I don’t have anything against change but make sure it works before introducing such… I don’t have words to qualify this change, at least none that I wouldn’t regret later however much they would make me feel a tad less miserable right now. :frowning:

Edit : I found an option to turn off audio quizz. I can select yes all I want it does strictly nothing. I give up. I can’t go on learning only pronunciation without meaning.

@Xlaech

Do you know what the original poster is talking about?

Is this you?

Heya, If I am not wrong, the user has stated which course. On the first line where it says 'Course : Its over 9000!!! And the link below is probably the user as the same two courses match.
weny:smile:

Yeah, you’re right, I realised my mistake when I looked up the user and read the post again. I’ve deleted my first post and tagged the course creator.

Coolio, sorry if I sounded a bit bossy.:smile:

By the way, the memrise team haven’t done anything wrong, this is a user-created course and the memrise team have nothing to do with it.

I have tagged the course creator so hopefully they will come along and you can talk here.

Hey btw is there a function where you can privately message another user? It would be cool if there was and I think it would be quite handy to use dealing with this type of situation idk

No probs! I probably sounded a bit snooty in my original post, but I hadn’t read the post properly :frowning: Silly me

Yes, there is. Are you using a laptop right now?

If you are, then you should be able to see your memrise avatar up in the right-hand corner. If you click on it, you will see three choices, the middle one is an envelope, which takes you to the private message system. I think you have to have “earned” a certain amount of “trust points” (or some such) before you can use it, though, so I can’t guarantee that you will be able to access it if you are very new to the forum.

Oooh just got promoted up a trust level. And thanks for replying with such detail ( not very common on other forum like sites) :smile:

Lmaooooo, hey can we try privately messaging if u have time?

It’s 10.30pm here so I will be going to bed soonish, but you can PM me, sure :slight_smile:

Course was working perfectly until I made the unfortunate decision to try decks:

That is the only type of question I ever get know. Pronunciation questions. When trying to learn new words. I sure know how to pronounce those kanji know. As to their meaning…

Trying ‘turn off audio questions for 30 minutes’ has not effect whatsoever.

I have been able to ascertain that only ‘learning new words’ is impacted. Speed, classic reviews and difficult words all behave normally (in Memrise).

I also tried to turn off audio questions in my settings with the same results.

The course behaved perfectly for the last 20 days, today included. Unless the creator has made changes the issue is very much Memrise related.

@alanh, @DW7

Do either of you have any idea why this course is behaving like this?

Do you think it is a memrise-related bug or is the problem possibly caused by the way the course was created in the first place?

I have also invited @Xlaech .

Sorry not knowing Japanese I’d find it difficult to follow. Hopefully the Creator (or a Contributor) can give some clarification.

Have you gone back and tested it on MemRise?

I wonder if it’s anything to do with keyboard characters?
