Private course and copyright

Hi all, I hope somebody can help me. I bought a book to learn a language and I would like to learn the vocabulary with Memrise. If I create a private, unlisted course only for me, would it be ok, if I upload pictures with copyrights from this book because nobody else can see it? Or is it already forbidden, because I upload them?

Maybe it would be better to move this copyright content to your own offline usage with AnkiSRS.

You can create your own cards, but you are not forced to publish it as a “shared deck” online.

AnkiSRS has so many powerful options…many more user settings to choose from compared to Memrise.
And it suppors “Overdueness” and “filter decks” for e.g cram learning, reviewing with longer break to catch up on new and old items (e.g filter for due >7d; due <7d).

And you would need to make a BACKUP of your hard work anyways (e.g Memrise2Anki exporter addon)…if the Memrise web portal goes completely downhilll one day…

I am not a lawyer, but I checked the copyright warnings at the beginning of a few books, and they all seem to agree: merely the act of transmitting a copy is against the copyright, and could lead you to getting into trouble if the course content that you uploaded was ever somehow made public. I wouldn’t do it.

Thank you very much for your answers. I will not upload any pictures and look into this AnkiSRS.
