Pictures as memory tools

I’m early into Japanese 2 as my first experience with this application, and I really enjoy the program so far. I have never posted here on these forums so I am hoping that I am even posting in the right category, or posting in a way that is helpful to the community for suggestions.

I feel as though this application is extremely useful and I have learned a lot so far.

However, I feel that it is really missing out on a very important learning tool that is proven to help with memorization, and that is images.

I’m not sure if this is something that is possibly being used in other lessons or later on in the program, but as a visual learner, I feel this would significantly help me at this point.

There could be images that are simply good for helping to remember a word as a hint. The images could also be used as learning/review tools.

The user is given an image and a series of words and must select the appropriate word that corresponds with the image. Or they could be given a word and a series of images to chose from.

Again, I apologize if this is not the proper way to submit this as a request, and I would appreciate it if anyone could help direct me to the proper way to go about it.

Hi, @RyanCodyLewis74! Welcome to Memrise, and to the forums!

While most courses use the traditional definition->word testing type or vice-versa, it is possible to make picture-based courses as you described in Memrise as well. Something like this, right?

It’s probably unlikely that the official courses would add the feature, since it would involve changing the testing direction or adding an entire extra set of levels, but I’d suggest having a look around at the unofficial courses, too. I haven’t taken any picture-based courses personally, so I can’t recommend any, but I know there are some around. You could also build your own course and add whatever pictures you’d like to be tested on. Feel free to ask if you’d like any pointers on course building.
