Like most of you, I was very shocked by the big changes Memrise did to the design. I was so triggered I decided to make several mock ups in the spur of the moment. I’m not a Memrise staff, but my hope is that we can work something acceptable and have the Memrise team adopt it. Anyway let’s try to come to a compromise together.
This is probably the best one I’ve come up with so far. It adds in some contrast, takes out that random shade of blue, uses drop shadow, and still keeps the yellow that Memrise wants.
Your efforts are commendable but I fear lost in General, as people responsible seem to avoid it. You’d have better luck in Bug thread or on their or founders twitter

We know there are some issue with contrast and we are working on it at the moment. Please bear with us for a little longer.
Your adaptation is certainly easier on the eyes. In the meantime Memrise seems to have removed the big blob on the top left.
I would also like it if they made the learn/review buttons smaller again. They are so big and yellow that they draw attention away from the information about the number of reviewable items.
I really like your idea for a dark theme, though I do very much hope that when they fix this mistake they will get rid of the yellow or at least choose a less putrid shade. The purple was so nice! It boggles the mind.
