is just my impression, or did memrise reduce the number of iterations in learning of new items (i have the impression my learning sessions are shorter?)

I have not yet noticed, the idea was 6 times per item I think.
6 per new word is also what I have seen recently (I use the website).
I still have 6 times each, I believe.
There is a recent change in Memrise-owned courses so that they do not use typing tests for longer phrases. Could it be the reason why the sessions are shorter?
nö, I am not taking official courses… I also had the impression the green bar in the upper part of the learn screen advances faster … anyhow, the number of multiple choice question in the first learning phase seems higher to me… now i have the impression i get to type to new item once, max twice?
what ever, thanks you all for answering: when I am learning Chinese and Indonesians, seeing new items at least 5 times is essential, to me…
The normal course for me is: 2 multiple choices (one in each direction), then typing, then 2 multiple choices again (with more options) and then typing once more.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the number of words per learning session has been amended without your knowing, did you check that setting?
When you mentioned that the green bar moves faster, it could be linked to the number of words to learn.
Same here.
Sometimes five multiple-choice and only one (final) typing, but often the third one is typing as well.
7? i’ll count next time, (i could swear i get them max 6 times, where 4-5 mc, 1-2 typing)
