MEMrise got rid of Mems hahahahahahaha you can’t make this stuff up even if you were to try
I’m unable to access all my courses. Why place obstacles in the way of learning? Who thought removing the scroll bar would be a smart idea? Here’s a clue, it isn’t!
Seems to be working for now.
This is really minor, but it would be nice to have to have an alternative enter keyboard shortcut that is close to the number keys. The enter key is convenient to use with the numpad but it’s too far from the number keys.
For Classic review, please allow us to turn off multiple choice answers. These make it too easy. I can get it right even if I don’t really know a word, or how to spell it.
Please, leave at least the difficult words tool as it was. This is one of the main reasons for my subscription. I didn’t like at all what you did with it, and I wont’t renew my premium if you change it. I want to choose which words I want to repeat as difficult and remove them from this list only when I feel that I’ve learned them.
Also I would like to choose difficult words after a lesson. I noticed that in beta, after a lesson, there’s no way to add difficult words, only during the lesson.
Thank you for the update at Post 225 here.
Regarding the absence of a timer, you didn’t say why you decided not to include one in the Beta version. Personally, I have strong preference for typing tests, over MC or tapping tests and I like the added time pressure (even for long phrases). Can’t you give us an option to include a timer? In this way, a timer ‘on/off’ switch would, in effect, also give us the ‘pause’ function that we currently enjoy with the older version.
Please reconsider.
Not happy.
I see a trend towards making it look good on an iPad.
I use my 27-inch iMac for learning.
I want a large dashboard.
I don’t like the new changes. The font is way smaller which makes it very difficult for those of us with bad sight. Also, if you’re going to include a timer during the classic review please give us the option to turn it off, if I wanted a timed session I would’ve chosen speed review.
I’m not happy with the changes. Being unable to type in all the answers, I won’t be renewing my subscription next year.
Sorry if this has been said before or elsewhere, but I don’t like that when I finish reviewing (watering) a level, I want to go onto another level, but the web sends me to the home page (dashboard).
It never used to.
Please can you consider this amending this @ale_c, @MemriseSupport and @BenWhately
I agree with DW7. It’s really annoying that it works that way.
I use levels extensively in my created courses and want to choose which one I’m learning new words from. If I just do the “learn new words” it will decide for me.
Also, I’m using it since I’m going to be forced in January and the other thing I find quite annoying is that I can have only 4-6 new words in a level and I have to go through them twice to completely fill the little bars which makes the above problem even more irritating.
People use the tool in different ways and the one that makes you go through multiple iterations is not good for more advanced learners.
I’m feeling really stupid to have to ask, but where is the button to mute sound whilst reviewing?
And where do I turn off the automatically added Daily Goals?
In the new version you can not keep track of your accuracy (how many times you have a difficult word right (expressed in a number) )and personally I’m a little bit disappointed. And I hope that the accuracy feature will stay in the future. For me it is almost essential to have it. I would like to be able to prioritize which difficult words I want to learn and I would like to be able to keep track of my accuracy. I really hope you take this in consideration, because taking the accuracy feature out of it decreases the ability to keep the words in your long-term memory.
PS. I hope my criticism is more constructive this time.
POOR OVERVIEW using your new system as an app.
Much easier to see where you are, clear hierarchy, in the OLD system.
I keep getting bogged down and can’t find homepage or dashboard in your Beta or Alpha versions, which I assume are part of your new plans.
So Web version (as well as old app version) is much better in that way, especially using desktop view in mobile phones.
The Alpha Beta variations as chosen in the settings seem to go backwards rather than forwards, clunkier, poorer, look like 1990s sites rather than anything modern.
A pity if you really change it in main structure,
albeit that content wise, ie how it works etc can of course always be improved…
Otherwise, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?!
I should add that Memrise is good fun otherwise, a good complement to textbooks, and more developed like with videos, than other flashcard systems…
would be even better if you could have more GRAMMAR based choices at least as Plus option, eg different word endIing choices - it’s not your main idea of course, but in my view having a grounding in the grammar
helps explain why words look the way they do and how to subtly alter them in phrases “talking to yourself” while ticking off the cards in the main system - and so to actually USE the language!!
Hi all,
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback on the Beta dashboard and sessions. All feedback on this thread has now been collected and categorised and will be passed over to the web and product teams working on this.
@Laurentius1995 If I understand correctly the Difficult Words function you’re thinking of, this is still there. To access it, go to the course page, then click Difficult Words under the course description.
Many thanks,
Memrise team
Thanks for your response. In the old (alpha) version I could keep track of my accuracy (how many times you have a difficult word right expressed in a number). I could remove and add difficult words without them being automatically removed. With the new (beta) version that isn’t possible anymore. The accuracy feature also counts for the classic review. In the screenshots of the old version I circled the numbers that I’m talking about.
The beta version unfortunately doesn’t have this feature, so that’s what I meant. I would like to see this feature in the new version back again.
Hi @Laurentius1995, this Difficult Words page still exists. Here’s where to find it on the course page:
If you don’t see this option, it means you don’t have any Difficult Words for that course.
You can now mark words as difficult from within the lessons:
Hope this answers your concerns, but let us know if not
Hi @TetraShiva. You mentioned not being able to press enter to move quicker through a session. We’ve tested this on all modes and can see that the enter key is working as before. Can you confirm if this is still an issue for you and if so, what browser you are using and on what mode this occurs? Thanks
Hai,
What I meant is that I can’t see my ‘Accuracy’ and ‘Current streak’ anymore in the new version when doing a review or practicing difficult words. And difficult words get automatically removed once practiced. In the screenshots you can see the title ‘Accuracy’ and ‘Current streak’ and under them the scores. The new (beta version) doesn’t have this.
To summarize, the following three features I would like to see back again in the new version:
- Accuracy
- Current streak
- ‘no’ automatic removal of difficult words
Hey. My apologies, as I rarely use the forums.
Unfortunately, I cancelled out of the beta and exed out of the prompt to use the beta. I could find some way to go back to the beta and check, but honestly I’m pretty busy and I’m just going to dive into the new version at the start of the year and see what happens. If you all have fixed it: great! Thanks. That will probably help keep me around after the change. Though whether or not my courses survived the transfer and if I can exclusively use typing to speed through my lists will also be a factor.
At any rate, no one is blaming support, and we appreciate the work you put in. Thanks.
