I have found since one of the latest updates that when you are learning new words for the first time, the mems for that word no longer appear at the bottom. I’ve been using Memrise for quite a while now, and what I love about it is the community effort to come up with memorable ways of learning new words. I thought mems were a fundamental part of memrise but now they only seem to appear once you have spelt a word incorrectly and it goes back to the original page which just seems a counter-intutitve way of learning.
Has anyone else noticed this or know how to bring up the mems again?

Same is happening on Androids since the last update. No mems available
I’m having the same issue with all my HSK Mandarin courses. No memes on app. Hope will be sorted soon! Using ios
I’m using Android and I have all the mems as usual… nothing changed
Is there ever going to be a fix for this? Three people got the same issue around the same time - there must be an issue. Perhaps it’s just an issue for courses using Asian characters?

I’m having the same problem. I don’t know how to ask the forum about this. It’s happening to me for all my courses and I’m taking German and Russian. I tried deleting my course and I tried refreshing everything, Hell, I even deleted my app and re-downloaded it again and it’s still not showing Mems from your words. This problem has made me stop using Memrise as a whole. until this problem is fixed, I’ll start using memrise again.
Same problem with the HSK 1 course for several months now.

I contacted memrise a couple of months ago about this and this is what they said:
"We are currently updating the Mems system, so they may not appear on some of our courses. We have changed the presentation screen layout mostly because of the feedback from users who have found the mems unhelpful and interrupting.
The mems can still be used if you get the answer incorrect, tap on the ‘help me learn this’ button and then see the mems. Essentially we have tried to come up with a solution that would be ok for both groups of people 
We will keep monitoring the feedback to see how people generally like the change and make further decisions based on that "
So yeah I’ve managed to get round it recently by just intentionally answering a question wrong if I’m unsure how to remember a word and checking out the mems that way. It would be better if they could just include a ‘Help me Learn This’ button on the first presentation screen as well but hey

How do i contact memrise then? They need to add an option for putting mems on new words for people who want this feature. I absolutely hate having to purposefully get the wrong answer to get the mems. As it just uses up time where i would’ve been done a course much quicker. Consider me an unhappy customer.
And they just updated the app with nothing on this matter, it’s pissing me off
Just updated the app after not having done so for a few months and have now started seeing this issue. Really disappointed as I find mems really helpful for learning new words. Without them it feels like I’m guessing my way through the first round kg learning. Really hope they get reinstated.
No mems on Memrise ( ﾟдﾟ). At least on the iOS app. There’s always the website.
Hey guys! Does anyone have an update to this bug by now? I am currently having the same problem with my Chinese course, and I have downloaded the latest version of the iOS Memrise app…

Mems are shown after getting the word incorrectly.
If no Mem has been created for the word you are learning, then you will not see any Mems.
That is quite a downgrade to Memrise.
Why not
a) … the old way
b) …have option in setting
c)… have the [quote=“addwillis, post:8, topic:5085”]

the d) no Mems on Memrise is the worst of the possible options … I feel tricked, I feel down from the changes

If this is contentious issue (Is it? That is some do like it and some do not) - why to not solve it by optional opt-in or opt-out settings in the setting? What is better in switching it off for all?
