Memrise Release Notes - 13 Dec 2017

Thanks. Good to know. Is Memrise going to do something to improve its pre-release testing so that we don’t keep getting these ‘false starts’?

I agree with that ONE BILLION TIMES! Quit “improving” things!! PLEASE!!

Doesn’t look like this “improvement” was a good idea, and it doesn’t look like those who had to “test” it before it crashed were happy with it either. So I guess we’ll complain to a wall in the next two weeks after this is fixed, before the next ruining “improvement”.

Just erase it all (and the changes of the last 6 months too).

My daily goal motivation counter is gone, seems like it keeps deleting my daily goal therefore also the counter?
Maybe its just a little buggy update or a local problem on my setup?
Fingers crossed for a fix in the next update

As you can see everything works just fine for me except my streaks

The bug has been fixed so I am happy again

Your head of development should be fired.

Your head of customer service should be fired.

That should be your update for December 14, 2017.

Thank you.

Looks like it’s working now. The new buttons are a distraction. I do not want speed review. At all. Ever. Is there a way to have only classic/difficult review, or just go back to whatever algorithm already existed that was working just fine? Is there a way for the USER to decide which one to engage in? Also, when are you getting rid of auto-accept? Please, please, please stop with the constant updating. It is nothing but stressful to your users, and you already had a wonderful site before all the changes. Are you TRYING to drive people away???

A kingdom for a horse. I’d give a kingdom for the memrise of 2013

MY OWN AUDIO FILES seem to disappear??? what did you do with your improvement? this snap is from a course that presents Duch audio and the user has to type the German equivalent… it looks horrible and the other way round now and the audio is … where?

Can you give us the option of undoing this supposed improvement, please? It makes the page load, slowly, it takes away our choice of learning style, and it makes crass simplifications about what we “need” to do next. Additionally, it removes a whole level of info from the dashboard. In each of the languages I am learning, I am studying or reviewing 10 to 15 courses. These used to be listed on that language’s dashboard, with each course showing on the front page how many words needed reviewing, how many were difficult, etc. I would work my way down the list, reviewing each course separately for courses where over 15 sentences needed reviewing, and then using the button at the top of the page to review the remainder. I no longer have that option. Nor do I know how many difficult words there are. The “More” button doesn’t load. Unless I click “Review”, I have no way of knowing how many items there are to review for that course. I cannot find any way of knowing from the dashboard how many difficult items I have in each course. Moreover, there is no way of knowing whether there are words due for review, or whether I can choose to review words early: “Classic Review” is shown in each case. And if there are words to review, I have no way of choosing instead to go through difficult words.

You just made the whole Memrise experience more frustrating and less usable. Please, please, give us the option to revert to the previous dashboard!

Yes. My Spanish courses have just loaded onto my dashboard.

We used to have a perfectly functional and enjoyable website version. If only they had left things alone! I do wonder just who they test these ‘improvements’ on, and on what basis they decide it’s a good idea to impose these changes on us.

Well, I am happy Memrise introduced this second BS before I could even consider renewing my membership. So, I will just stop paying and look out for a better site/app. does anyone have any suggestions?

I don’t want random buttons! It’s so annoying!

Now I don’t know if I have repetitions.
I don’t want to click to figure out.

We have to click a button to see how many words are ready for review? This is insane. It’s like the people making these changes have never actually used the site.

Change it back!!!

Yeah, except this seems pointless. Especially as a free user. I don’t even want to do Speed Reviews on some courses and now I’m stuck with it and have to click the MORE button just to get to classic reviews.

My disappointment at the way coders treat users is literally painful. I have been a paid customer in the past and ended up asking for a refund. Thank you for the refund. Why would people choose to pay you if you interrupt their studies so badly.
Interestingly these changes push the paid portions to the forefront. If you want money, make a stable service that works consistently, with updates that are preplanned.
If you want people to pay you, I bet, improving gadgets to the point of disrupting the flow of learning is counter productive to both a user, a paid or free user and to Memrise itself.

You are not going to build a bigger paying base by disrupting all users.

WTF !!!

I like the new style, but you have locked speed review for courses with no words up for review (i.e completed courses). This makes it very hard and time-consuming to hit daily goals, and thus make it harder to keep streaks going, even with the minimum goals.

So you’ve taken one of the most annoying features of the otherwise-great app (I want to decide what to do next rather than avoiding a pre-set suggestion) and added it to the website, breaking it in the process? Good stuff!

Speed review is not locked, you just have to go to the course itself and then klick on the red speed review button, for me it works.

I do that but it is blanked out

Yeah, this is my main gripe.

As a free user, I don’t feel like I have a leg to stand on in terms of how they want to change the site. I get a free service and I’m happy with that. That’s more than fair for me.

That being said, I’ve introduced many people to this site and over the past year or two it comes with the caveat that they shouldn’t pay for pro, because all the things they like about the site may change on a whim, literally overnight. And should they take the time to come to the forums and express their frustrations… well, it’ll likely be met with silence.

At this point, I feel like the success of this site is in spite of, not because of, the staff. I don’t doubt that they are talented and hard-working, but c’mon… that will only take a product so far. The lack of communication/response to the users is stunning.
