Memrise Release Notes - 13 Dec 2017

All this exactly! I haven’t used Memrise as long as the other users here. But this update feels like a glitchy beta. Now If this some experimental beta server/test group then ok. Where do I sign up for the actual functioning site? I see the power of Memrise and hope it continues to grow. But not like this. So as Serin said…

Engineering? as in code? Or in the “science” that Memrise apparently uses?

When I see Memrise referring to “science” or “data” I tend to replace the words with “magic” or “today’s guess” and things make much more sense.

Why, oh why Memrise. Stop messing around with stuff. Please. At least for user generated courses.

Unless we are all actually in some mass psychology experiment that’s been going on for years …

I agree these two new buttons are completely useless.

It’s the third incredibly stupid update in a row! Firstly, you changed ranking with nice Membryos, Memgineers and Membassadors to a stupid picture with the name, which sounds close to the greeting of German Nazis (ziggy… what’s a terrible idea!). Secondly, you destroyed learning experience by adding auto-accept and hints. And now, you completely destroyed the dashboard by hiding the number of words for practice! And you have been doind all this staff for my money! And, moreover, the communication with your customers is completely non-existent!
Maybe it’s not late to fire that PM who is killing your formerly great product?

We are. I’m just not sure if they are trying to find out the best or the worst user experience.

Just an observation from “watering” today, many of the images on courses I was reviewing either didn’t load or took a long time to load. Would need to test further to be sure of this - but thought I’d let you know.

So when presented with four images there could be one or two missing - and I had to make a guess at a blank image.

@BeaTrisy Could you not include (put back) that information for us as well?

I guess we’ll never get any answer here, as with the last “Memrise announcements”. And some time next week or the week after, we’ll have a new “announcement” saying something like “Merry Christmas and happy new year dear users, we love you, we will continue to do everything to bring you another wonderful year of changes for a better learning experience.”
Dear Memrise-staff, here is some interesting stuff for you:

The whole point of a dashboard is to view and access basic information. Amazing how hard you’ve fucked this up.

What I hate the most is their lack of discussion. Why do you need a F"·$ membus? Grammar useless bots? Better hire at least 1 person that answers customer questions.

131 replies and no answer of Memrise.

Who, or what, was the cat? I’ve only been on Memrise for going on a year now.

Mousha was the CEO of memrise, when Ed Cooke forgot to renew the memrise domain and we had no memrise for a week

That is so cute & clever! Thanks, Hydro. (kap khun mak!) (That’s Thai for “Thanks a lot”. I added that because I thought you just started to learn Thai.) I tried to watch the video of how Mousha became CEO of Memrise, but it has evidently been taken off line.

‎ขอบคุณ - unfortunately, it seems i’ll not be able to learn Thai with memrise (some tips for the begginer, in a PM, the script is driving me mad…)
Well, for the delight of old gone days, the old page of mousha as CEO (scroll down), in the memory of those long gone times when the memrise team had the decency and kindness to present themselves online:

I’d like to add my voice to the choir. This interface update means:

  • Essential information (how many words need reviewing) no longer directly visible.
  • It takes two clicks rather than one to do what I want to do (I know myself what I want to do next, thank you very much)
  • A lot of dead space on the dashboard where the elements I’m missing could easily be.

If you want to introduce new UI elements to replace old ones, why on earth not at least leave an option to retain the old elements somewhere in the settings?

You need a real UX designer.

Get your shit together, update your UI but give the option to switch back to the old one.
Then you get feedback and keep your user base happy.

I shouldn’t have to click the more button on each course to know how many words are up for review. This number should be displayed like it always was!
