When starting the programme it keeps on crashing
Looks very much like a problem with a hard disk or so, not with memrise itself.
After last update (tablet) app goes to the next lesson after 0 to 3 answers. It is not the hard disk!

Try the older apk version v2.9_3947.
It works very good and does not crash in my Bluestacks Android emulator environment.

Please define “lesson”.
IMHO you are using the DuoLingo names (skill, lesson, etc.)…
Memrise has a course, levels, and you can learn multiple words in a session (you can review up to 50 words on the Android app).
Whereas you might have to double plant the words, as my 7-10 words are almost never fully planted (6 flower planting steps) when my 1st learning session is finished.
They want me to review words, do other exercises, and then come back later to finish planting/learning of the words.
However…I just ignore this and hit the “Learn new words” button a 2nd time 
Could you maybe retry with the older apk version v2.9_3947?
The learning session is definitely NOT terminated on my side after 0-3 answers.
However please note: For reviews I am just using the web interface, not Android.
Neither on my PT BR user-created user, nor on the offical PT6 course.
I have exactly the same problem. When I start a review session, I can answer between 0 and 3 words after which the app just freezes up, stops responding and then restarts and kicks me back into the main screen. Been like this since the update on 16th of November. Seems to be unrelated to network (tried with data, wifi and also offline mode). Tried reinstalling the app, deleting the cache and restarting the phone many times.

After yesteday’s update android app hangs on 2 question in every session
and restarts.
I use Russian lang app and my terms are translations.
I use russian too actually. Maybe there is a pattern?
I had to download old version to get it working again.

Tried classic review, fast review, learning, difficult words, meet the natives and listening. Happened in all of them

Yes, haven’t been able to find one where it wouldn’t happen (happens every time).
Does it happen only on a particular course/word
No, tried in at least 5 different courses, happened in all of them. These were small (about 50 words) to very large (about 5000 words)

I can confirm what Pekka is describing. I’m also running 4.4.4 but on a Sony Xperia E4g. On my device it seems to happen when there is an animation such as sliding the screen between questions or buttons that are animated when they appear.
Can I download 2.94_2973 from somewhere?
They fixed it… just update to the latest version…

It’s still happening in the latest version for me.
I have similar problem, the “speed review” always stop and return to main page. I cannot press the blue answer block for review questions!
A quick update. This problem is fixed on my end in 2.94_3213. Everything appears to work fine again :]

Just use app as normal, learn new words, after few words app will crash, ask you to restart or send report

Only on Chinese GCSE All Units course, various words
Just had a try with jumping way ahead to one of the later sections of this GCSE course (there are 1228 words split into 39 units so went to one of the ones at the very end) and it seemed to run without crashing. This could possibly suggest there’s a problem with calculating your progress on a half-learnt word rather than a fresh word? Or maybe there’s something about the words I’m learning at the moment that it doesn’t like in some way.
Let me know if you need more detail on the words it’s crashing with.
Seems to be Unit 3.1 - public transport (listening) that it is always crashing on. The words: timetable, traffic, ticket office, coach
