Making Courses Private for personal use

How can I keep my courses private, yet still available to my students? I noticed that someone else had edited my course and added an advertisement for their own courses. I use mine for my high school AP classes and would like to keep them a certain way. Thanks!

We had a similar conversation recently on a different thread about the 3 status of courses (private, limited, open), but no one can edit your course unless you made them contributors to it.

But you can not limit the content of the mems.

As sircemloud said, people shouldn’t be able to make changes to a course unless they’re a contributor on it. It’s possible that someone reported your course as being abandoned and had Memrise add them as a contributor. Can you check and see if anyone is listed as a contributor for your course?

Appointed contributors can be annoying. I once had 2 on the same course and had to delete it!!:anguished:

Thanks for the input. It looks like someone was added on as a contributor. Guess I’ll have to take care of that.

As stated above, no one can become a Contributor without the approval of the Creator or the approval of the MemRise team (in the case of a perceived abandoned course or where the creator has not been active for a long time).

Any requests to the team to become a Contributor are first dealt with an by email by the team to the creator to seek their approval or to check that they still wish to support the course.

It was of course a little easier in the old days to contact the creator with embedded Course Forums.
However if they have visited this Forum area they should be able to receive PMs.

Most Contributors wish to take on that role because it is a great course and they want to offer support to students, as well as ‘enhancing’ (in their eyes) the learning experience.
