Learned words count

Hi!

I suppose I found a bug.

On my dashboard I have different count of learned words. The difference is 10 all the time.

Thanks!

Just another user here. I am going to guess that you learned 10 words from some other course—maybe one that you later quit.

Oh, wow, the course count is higher than the total. That’s weird.

Yes, I thought about it too even I don’t remember that I learned other courses, but you’re right, the total can’t be greater than course count.

Most probably there are some words twice in the course in different chapters. and when you learn this word it counts twice for the course, but only once for the overall word list. You can see that when you learned some chapters but already have progress in chapters you haven’t even started. So it is no bug.

So if I’ll check all learned words in course and won’t find any duplicates or find less than 10 duplicates, what should I do next?

There is nothing to do. This is just how the system works.

Sometimes as a course creator you add words twice or more often to have chapters more complete on its own.

They could of course also not count these words twice in the course but then someone would come and say: “Hey there are 19 words in this chapter but it says I learned only 18 of 18 words.”

So it could be a solution to not link these two words as ‘equal’ and just write them twice exactly the same way. But then there would be the problem that you have in a multiple choice question one answer 2 times (because the algorithm looks for similar answers to make the multiple choice harder), but only one of the is correct, because they aren’t linked as equal.

Normally you have anyway more courses, or someone deleted a word in a course that you already learned, or you quit a course and don’t have it on your list anymore, so you can’t count everything together anymore.

Furthermore the number hasn’t to be totally exact because it is anyway just for motivational reasons to have some number that shows you your progress.

Ok. Thanks!
