Language Learning with TTS (Text-to-Speech) for Android Users

Google’s TTS (Text-To_Speech) App for Android can be used to listen to any web page text as an aid to language learning.

  1. Install Google’s TTS App from Google Play.
  2. In “Settings”, “Accessibility”, “Text-to-Speech output”, there should be an engine.
  3. In the settings for the text-to-speech engine, install the language you want to learn.
  4. Find any web page text in your chosen language. (Project Gutenberg has books in most languages and a good place to start.)
  5. Tap the icon for TTS and select the text and touch the play button.

I tried it in Finnish and it works quite well. I think there are other TTS engines, but Google is free.
I don’t have an iPhone, but there is probably something similar available. I don’t know, as yet, if this works on desktop systems.
