This is the course forum for the JLPT N2 Reading by Cynic, who has since left memrise. I will be trying to maintain it from now onwards. Please post any questions or concerns you have about it.
This course shows the Kanji and you are meant to answer with the Hiragana. The majority of the words will also show the English meanings once you have been marked on the Hiragana. But about 10-20% of the words don’t show the English meanings and so I am trying to fix that problem. It seems that the problem happens when the meanings are too long, they are just not shown at all. So I have started trying to make the problem English meanings shorter. While that will mean that they won’t have the full meaning any more, I think it will be worth it to be able to see the meanings right away, rather than having to go to a separate dictionary or deliberately make a mistake so you can see the whole thing. Please let me know if you object to this modification.
Thanks for your work on this course Mike! I’m working through it now, so I thought I’d come back here with some words where the English meaning doesn’t show, usually due to length. I’ll keep a notepad nearby while doing the course in the hope I’ll have longer lists for you in the future. For now, here’s one I’ve just picked up on.

If you need help, just let us know. I’ve had a fair bit of experience creating/adjusting Memrise courses, so I’d be happy to help/adjust the entries myself.
Kind regards,
Fiona
Thanks Fiona,
I haven’t got through the whole course, but hearing that it is helping somebody else makes me want to go through the rest at least to get them as good as possible. If you can get Cynic to add you as a contributor I’ll be very happy to have the help
I just finished going through level 43. But there might still be a few that don’t show up, so let me know. I will try to do the rest soon.
I have been through the whole course to try to shorten the English definitions. There may still be some that are slightly too long. If you come across a meaning that doesn’t show up when you get it right, please let me know and I will try to fix it.
Another one for you Mike!
Level 19
周辺
Level 20
生け花
Not sure why it has a number one next to it in the English definition?
Level 20
削る no English showing
濃度 concentration, brightness >> concentration, thickness, density
退く also showing (1) before meaning
周辺 Fixed by getting rid of (computer) in part saying (computer peripheral)
生け花: (1) removed. It probably had a (2) that made it too long to show, so I removed it. But I can’t remember exactly.
削る: Modified the English meaning to make shorter and to fit better to that in jisho.org: Now reads to shave, to take a percentage
濃度: Made the suggested change in definition.
退く: Removed the (1)
Thanks for your suggestions! They are helping to improve the course!
Thanks kindly Mike!

匂う missing English
Hi Mike!
A few more. Doing these by memory and/or fast typing after sessions, so apologies if the English does actually show on some of them. Unless I’ve noted otherwise, the items listed are missing the English during testing. I’ll send more as I go along!
Thanks in advance,
Fiona
