Japanese first lesson issue

Hi my name is Jason, i just started to use memrise just yesterday, and i am trying to learn Japanese.
On the first lesson of the Japanese category, all the Japanese words are replaced with symbols instead of hiragana.
Is it because of my phone or because of the app?
I am using red mi note 4g, Android version 4.4

It would be best if you could provide a screen shot of what you are seeing as well as the name of the course and or a link to the specific course you are asking about.

when selected on the first planet

Could you be studying Japanese 1 from Russian somehow?

I have had a look and I can only see the following:

This is the Japanese 1 for British English speakers:

This is the Japanese 1 for US English speakers:

When you open the course - on the web site - which one is it? Or is it something else?

If it is one of the above then I assume you downloaded it? You could delete the download and re-download it.

If the URL is different, could you post it?

Edit: Actually there are official Japanese 1-3 courses for Turkish, German, Dutch etc etc but nothing visible for Russian. It could be they are still working in them, and they are keeping them hidden. Somehow you may have selected part 1 (for Russian speakers) to study. What is your language set to on the courses page? (The bit called “I Speak:” at the top of the left hand column)

when i click on the the link ( http://www.memrise.com/course/1135341/japanese-1/ ) it shows where i left off, and in the web site its correct it shows romaji instead of Russian which is on my phone.

the is the course i selected

Same bug … japanese words in slavic letters… I'm learning Russian now I guess

Very strange. So you have started the Japanese for British English course, but have the Russian pronunciation text, instead of English pronunciation text. (This may not be the correct term - not sure what to call it).

The reason I assume it is not a font problem is that the number of characters is different in some cases. For example: the text for ‘no’ is 3 long in English but 2 in Russian.

Here is the Level 1 text as I see it.

konnichiwa - hello
sayounara - goodbye
arigatou - thank you
hai - yes
iie - no
ikou! - let’s go!
gomennasai - I’m sorry
choushiwa dou? - what’s up?
matane - see you later
oyasumi - good night

Some ideas for you…

If you downloaded the course, you could try re-downloading. (Downloading would require you have a Pro subscription or have been a user since before April).

You could try removing the course, and re-adding it.

If you are American, or have no preference for dialects, you could try the US English edition of the course instead.

ooh, that’s kinda annoying.

thank you for replying to the problem, hope you guys can fix it for future users.
I have successfully pass the first planet for the lesson and on the 2nd lesson they showing hiragana and romaji so its okay for me now.

Appreciate the replies and hope you guys could fix the problem.

I’m not staff - just another user. I assume the same for the others.

I pointed lien at this conversation, who is staff, so hopefully Memrise will look into it.

Glad it is not holding you back.

ohhh,
