I’ve noticed that sometimes when adding words by bulk, there will sometimes already be an audio clip associated with a word.
Is it possible to automatically add sound clips to all your mems, if an audio clip is available for that particular word? Then I could just upload my own audio clips for all the ones where an audio clip isn’t available.
It would be really useful. Out of the ~1000 vocab items on my course, around 50 of them have audio which I haven’t uploaded. I assume they were automatically added from a database that someone had already uploaded audio to… now if only there was a way to get audio for the rest of my course…
why do you refer to audio for items (words, phrases etc) as being “audio to your mems”???
What do you mean? I’ve seen the official Memrise team refer to vocab items as “mems”, which I assume is short for “memories”, so saying “add audio to your mems” would be fine.
A mem is (or was? have they gotten rid of mems??) a mnemonic aid to help you remember a “word” (which is a vocabulary or other fact item, even if it’s not actually a word). A mem is a phrase or picture or image with text on it, that you can select to appear next to a word when you learn it, and whenever you get it wrong in a review. The mem is supposed to help you remember the word. Not all words have mems, and there can be many mems for the same word - mems are contributed by memrise users, and you can make your own or choose one that’s already there.
Or at least, that’s how it used to work. I think they never let mobile users have full access to mems, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve eliminated a lot of this stuff by now, in their steady drive to make memrise worse and worse and to get rid of all the community features. But if memrise still has mems, that’s what those are. They are not the vocabulary items themselves.
