Intermediate French by Coralie

Hi @cos, would you kindly fix an error on Level 59 of Intermediate French (Creator Coralie - now supported by you I understand). The French is “la retraite” and the translation is “a retirement”. I get it wrong almost every time. Would you kindly change the article. Thank you. The link is: http://www.memrise.com/course/1189/intermediate-french/59/

Ahh, thanks for linking to the course. You can disregard my reply in private message, where I wasn’t sure which course you meant. However, I’m also puzzled by what you want fixed. I think “a retirement” is right, and “retirement” looks like it’s in there as an alt so that ought to work as well. Could you be specific about exactly what you want fixed? When you say “kindly change the article”, which article do you want changed and what do you think it should be changed to?

Hi @cos, my problem is the article, eg when the English is put up, “a retirement”, I generally translate that as “un retraite” - which is wrong. It will only accept “la retraite”. Entirely up to you whether you make it ‘the’ (la) or ‘a’ (un). Merci beaucoup.

Ohhh, I see the issue. Try typing “une retraite” - that has been there as an alt all along, so it should be accepted. “un retraite” is, of course, wrong

No wonder ‘un retraite’ didn’t work! I was so hung up on “the” and “a” that I was stopped in my tracks. I will never forget from now on that it’s a female word!!! Merci beaucoup!

Hello @cos. I’m back here again - still on the same course … http://www.memrise.com/course/1189/intermediate-french/
I am having recurring issues with the English word “behaviour” in this course. It first comes up in Level 6, as “la conduite” - the behavior; and the second time on Level 45, as “le comportement” - behavior. My problem is in reviews, never knowing which French word to choose, in other words only a 50% chance each time of choosing the right word. Can you kindly review? Thanks.

Removed “[Course Forum]” from the title of this post, because it’s a post about “la retraite”, but having it labelled “course forum” seems to be what caused @sircemloud to merge a separate post (about a different pair of words) into here. Waiting for him to unmerge and unlock that post and I will reply to it there.
