I’ve noticed there is a user in one of the leaderboards with an inappropriate username and profile image.
This is on a school aged memrise, and could possibly be linked to another school, but I cannot report the user. I also cannot send a message to any of the moderators - either in a group or to individual moderators.
i had a look at the leaderboards of all the courses you’re taking and I did not see anything “inappropriate”. (The minimum age in here, btw, is 13, it should be 20)
also, what do you mean with “This is on a school aged memrise, and could possibly be linked to another school” and “inappropriate users”?
As a teacher we can create groups that our students can then join to do exam revision. All the computer science courses I’m learning are targeted at 15-16 year olds. There is a username with a picture of a child who made the news
a few years ago because he died. The name of the user references the case. This I would class as inappropriate - I don’t even feel comfortable going into further detail on a forum.
When looking for a way to report I noticed the follower/following behaviour and it seems to fit that of a student in a school class.
aha. (So it is inappropriate - maybe it is a form of hommage, whatever). If the course/group is public, I don’t understand why you feel uncomfortable “going into details” (I did not ask for details). And you are a teacher and you created the group, that mean you invited the users/pupils., you can then speak yourself with that child about what you consider “inappropriate”.
Except that it is not my course. I did not create the course. I have simply created a group so that my students can access the course. That is how groups work. So no I cannot “speak myself with that child”. Being a teacher that is the first thing I would do if it were my students. Thank you for your infinite wisdom. I think I will try and find a different resolution as I’m not getting the answers i seek here.
Yes, I see what you mean. It’s pretty tasteless, to say the least.
Although, I think it likely that very few people will recognise the image, I have drawn the forum mods attention to this via a private message, inviting them to take a view.
Yeah I saw a guy with an Elliot Rodger avatar and looked for a way to report it, but found none and gave up on it.
If that’s the guy you’re talking about, he didn’t just die, he killed 6 people, injured 14 others, and then killed himself. He’s looked up to as a hero in some of the very dark corners of the web and that av and maybe the user should be banned.
No, it was something else but that one’s been addressed now.
Edit: For the future, when reporting things like this, it can be worth ‘tagging’ one of the Memrise Mods/Admins in your post. You’ll find them listed by clicking on the button (located between the search button and your avatar in the top right hand corner of this page) and then clicking on “About”.
