No, it’s gotten worse instead of better, so I suggest you wait a little longer …
I get confused if we are talking about the App dashboard or the web dashboard.
Could the title be modified, please?
Anyway as the last posts were about the App, could I remind @memrisesupport that I don’t know what the “Home” hand planting icon does?
It doesn’t do anything on my phone and certainly doesn’t take me to what I’d expect (my home page of courses as on the web).
Anyone else know what it does?
I too like the removal of the large icons (now in the three vertical dots option) so we can see the whole course title (which user-created courses use).
PS
I see the rocket is how many days streak I have on a course (ie how many days I’ve been on my mission).

How does one update the app?
There is no notification and it’s not in the cog wheel settings, so I guess one has to check the store occasionally?

How interesting, when I looked at the App store earlier it showed my version as a different number to the App store.
Now the App store says the version is 20th April and my App has indeed been automatically updated.
If you were going to go to an eye doctor to know how your eyesight is - in this case the last update is most certainly great and handy. I just hope Memrise won’t charge us for extra services.
Not sure what you refer to, can you elaborate?
If you’re on Android, updates are managed through your Google account resp. the Google Play Store. If you have auto-updates turned on, you’ll receive updates without having to do anything (that’s how I do it).
If auto-updates are off, go to the Play Store, click the hamburger icon and tap “my apps and games” (might differ, my store is in German).
This should take you to the page where you see pending updates.
Moving the number of words to review was an annoying change. I’m all for making tweaks to the design but this one didn’t work. The number is really small and hard to read - the main reason for opening the menu was to see which causes I needed to review and now that’s so much harder. Putting it back on the course photos would be so much better.
DW7 … On the App … I don’t know what the “Home” hand planting icon does?
Olaf … Not sure what you refer to, can you elaborate?
Bottom left.
I think that’s just to move between “Plans” on the right and the “original” screen.
Oh - I see, it takes you back, having been to plans!
But why is it on that page? - Just curious.
And as I said before it’s not like the “Home” on the web, which takes me to a list of all courses I’m learning or revising.
Typical conversation with Memrise staff.
Users: We need more control over dashboard to sort out our courses.
Memrise: Thank you for your feedback! We did a thorough analysis and realised that what you really need is a new dashboard with symbols so tiny and green colour so overwhelming so you won’t see ̶s̶h̶i̶t̶ a thing.
Users looking at new dashboard: WTF?!
Memrise: Ungrateful bastards! We won’t talk to them for another month.
The end.
Well, this is not the way to cultivate a good relationship with Memrise personal. I’m just happy they are here and respond, unlike a year ago – and I want that to continue. I think they are doing a good job with all of us who have zillions of feature we can’t live without.
For starters, would you be so kind to use grey “reply” button, when you are talking to me or anyone else. You’re internet-savvy enough to reply correctly, and it’s not the first time you are doing this.
What’s the use of their presence, if
- there is still no intelligible dialogue with Memrise; ask any serious question - they would ignore it, as well as they are ignoring the major part of feedback
- they are still dismantling more than building or making things even worse or changing non-essential things so to change them again three months later
I think so far their responsive attitude has been great. I don’t want to lose that connection.
For years you had those uniformed coloured avatars for every official course, which made navigation between courses a little bit easier, especially if you have a pretty heap of them. Now you have substituted them with some random pics without any correlation to courses.
How does it help users? In which way it considered an improvement? Another bikeshedding.
Hi @MemriseSupport, I see you have rebranded your courses - lovely photos. …
However, as they look no different to user-created courses (having lost their distinctiveness by colour coding them), here’s a suggestion …
Why not call the course “Italian 1 by Memrise”, “French 1 by Memrise” etc.
(I know it says “Created by Memrise” on the web and will be listed first, but on the App the author is not listed.)
(If people choose a course on a pretty picture, they may prefer someone else’s photo .)
(After all, many people search for courses on the web, and we think in time you will make the search for user-created courses available on the App as well.)

I’ve seen this as well. While it’s absolutely OK to introduce changes to the “course icons”, it is now even harder to distinguish courses in the app.
For instance, the Swedish courses used to be all blueish with hints of yellow (a IMHO clever reference to the Swedish flag!) and were thus easy to see as a group and different from other languages, but now they each have images that have no predominant feature whatsoever.
Also, the course icons used to be decorated with a flag which helped a lot, but it’s now gone. Take a look yourself - this is what it looks like here for Russian and Swedish. If you try finding the next course to work on and thus navigate through the list, it’s now pretty much a game of chance to find the right one, unless you read through all the descriptions:
Would you think it would be possible to at least add a language flag/icon to the courses’ images again?
Hello. I’ve just noticed that Memrise changed the pictures of the official courses. Please make it as before, each language should have specific color as before. But now there are some photos.
This is my example from the App.
(I thought the official course tops the list even though it’s not the last to be learned, but it just took some time to update.)
It’s true of the web as well.
On the web. the course images have a country flag decoration which makes it a bit easier to distinguish the courses though.
Also, I very much liked the fact that the design of the Memrise courses’ images included the countries’ colors (for most of the ones I learned anyway)!
The new images are nothing but arbitrary, with no connection to the language and no red line between the courses 1-7 either …
Perhaps a good solution would be to surround (ie frame) the photo chosen by the familiar colour we are all used to - ie pink for MenRise’s Italian courses.
But it would have to work for the odd blob shape, the circular display and the square display seen in three different situations, but I guess that isn’t too technically difficult.

I don’t know whether you guys like it or not, but the current official Russian courses 1-7 icons are not as good as the original icons. Maybe it is because the original icons all have green backgrounds or I’m just used to it.
