The most logical solution, would be to have your decks website with ads for community content, so its free, and the premium version would be paid, which would include all content (community courses and official) as an app.
That is something I would love to try. Will send You and email. Thanks!
OK, thanks Kevin.

āThere will be more apps out there but something really works when you get a large user base and there is a āconsensusā amoung users that it is a āgotoā app. Memrise was, but I guess it wonāt continue.ā
This about sums it up. Iām adding my voice to this thread: Very poor decision to remove the app and offline mode for community users.
A solution already suggested:
āCreate a copy of the Memrise app, call it āDecksā and have it pointing to the Decks server, rather than the memrise one.ā
Itās kind of silly as if the reasons are financial (Iāve postured some ideas in my other posts about why they are doing this) then they could have communicated that. I am sure many of us would have not been against a price increase; with justification.
I want to apologise to those of you who are using offline mode to learn community created courses on our mobile app. Weāve tried to be as upfront as possible by saying that weāre not planning at the moment to have a separate app for Decks, and it wasnāt an easy decision.
If you would like to send a message to our Support team to discuss your subscription, Iāll make sure we respond to you quickly. Hereās the link, and you can mention me in your message.

@kevin5284 if you can do but one thing for us ā¦ please try and get the most senior person you can to just sit down for 30 minutes and look at this thread. You will be doing right by 100ās of users that paid their own earned money for a service. Thank you for helpingā¦
Wow, Memrise, way to ruin a good thing.
Will certainly cancel Pro subscription if you go ahead with this.
The only reason I even have a Pro subscription is to show gratitude. Itās not because of the pro features, which I could take or leave.
The Memrise courses are very nice, but they donāt cover everything and they donāt even exist for some languages I study.
yesā¦ exactlyā¦ .this idea has my 100% supportā¦
you said it wasnāt an easy decisionā¦ what is the reason for that awful decision? I try to understand but I canāt. Why donāt you just improve the current app, which I love so much?
Who needs lifelong membership, if there are only limited courses? Please consider our opinion hereā¦ I desperately want to continue memriseā¦ it is so disappointing.
Iām a pro subscriber for nearly two years now and the only thing that is really disappointing me with this news is that i love the app, iām on it litterally everyday but i hate the website interface, also iām almost never on official courses just because the community courses are way better, iām learning mostly japanese, arabic and some courses i made for exams i got to pass, if you continue without making the same app for the community courses iāll have no reason to buy another yearly subscription and when i take a look at the responses in this post it will be the case for a lot of people, please listen to your members pro or not
This kind of sucks. You donāt have nearly the number of āofficialā courses as the community courses. I paid for a lifetime membership in order to use the app (including all the paid membership features), and now Iām just being thrown out somewhere else that is less convenient (no app) and no offline mode (this is a big deal to most people).
I specifically use Memrise with the community-created courses that run concurrent with DuoLingo courses. You donāt even have the āofficialā courses for the language Iām learning so that means my lifetime membership is useless at this point.
Do you understand that you have made a completely unethical decision that would be remembered?
You could leave current Memrise and site and app (with its community courses), rename it to Decks. Then fork it and move all your courses to the newly forked Memrise. The old Deck and an app would be frozen, for a year (or the time being). Users will not get any update, but at least they would be able to use it as-is or plan accordingly. This will at least be honest for the subscribers
I donāt think that it is all that bad and you donāt have any cash for hosting.
Instead you have chosen to kill the community content and move it to the ghetto.
No Offline mode!!! Goodbye memrise
If this is supposed to be an improvement then some serious convincing explanation is needed.
A short email from Ed Cooke with āwe want to reassure you that very little will actually changeā is not really helpful, especially as the changes are far reaching for many.
Wonāt someone convince me that this is going to be a good thing!?!?!? Please.
The most senior person in Memrise (Ed Cooke) sent you a letter this morning with an announcement about these changes. They have made up their minds.
Thank you, I just wrote to the support team:
Since memrise will no longer support offline mode to learn community created courses on your mobile app and since this is a feature, which I most definitively need, and since this was a reason to subscribe to the pro version, I would ask you to refund part of my payment for a lifetime subscription. I was referred to you by Kevin Memrise, who promised that you will respond quickly.
I am keen to see when and what they will respond.
Canāt you cancel it?
My thread on suggested action:
āapologise to those of you who are using offline mode to learn community created courses on our mobile appā
Is there any substitution or possibility for those group to use older version of app?
" weāre not planning at the moment to have a separate app for Decks, and it wasnāt an easy decision "
IF: (At the moment = NOW) => When you are planning to change this decision?
