Im done with memrise :)

I’ve just cancelled my memrise subscription after three years. It was only 18€ per year but it felt so good to do this, especially after seeing how this company treats its customers. I especially quitted because of the behavior of @JBorrego the way he treats clients is ridiculous. After all, memrise wasn’t even worth 18€ per year and Anki is free. I’m
Very glad to leave this “shop”

It’s a pity that you leaves, but why do you think your action needs an own topic. I do not see any constructive criticism.

For those of us who have felt for years that Memrise turned a corner and started treating their community with contempt, it’s a bit of a relief to see others are feeling the same. So thanks for posting about it. It would be better if Memrise turned back to what they were and started caring again, but in the meantime, this is what we have.

As for constructive criticism, how about the thread of mine that they somehow hid so it doesn’t show up on any topic lists, but I can still link to it: Memrise is dead. Let's get together and build an alternative - #259 by cos

What do you mean by constructive criticism? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: basically everything they touched turned into sh… and apparently I’m not even allowed to spell that out. Need examples? Zingy, grammar bots, new design, member social system, badges etc etc etc the list is endless. Combine that with blocking forum members because they put the finger in the wound and people leave. The Russian course for Germans is full of sh… too after years they have been creating it. Every single time I revise I see tons of mistakes. The way they teach Russian sucks, it doesn’t even make sense. It’s 100% safe to say that Learning Russian with memrise is a complete waste of time. It’s not more than an ordinary vocabulary trainer and a bad one. That’s why I’d and will advise people not to use it any longer

Afternoon,
the team and I were discussing what was the appropriate response to this and we have decided that, considering all facts, we will do as follow:

  1. Explaining the reasoning.
  2. Permanently block FlorianDAquisto from participating in the community.
  3. Close this thread to further replies.

We do appreciate and encourage participation and feedback. That is clear from the different topics on courses, features, bugs, etc.
It is clear that it has not always been this way but it is obvious that there is a drive to listen and work with the community. We can see many examples in the Beta Feedback topics or in the Bugs threads.

We can’t cater for everyone and we try to make a product that works for all, considering all the internal and external feedback that we get, from many sources.
While one can have a strong opinion on a topic, that doesn’t mean it is the only valid opinion. There are others who might think differently.

That being said, we have never taken punitive action against feedback, about critiques or about negative comments. There is a history of that in this forum and one can easily see how that is absolutely not the case.

We have, however, specially as of lately, started to apply the forum guidelines. There are limits as to what it is acceptable to say, and being in an online community doesn’t mean one is exempt. We will not tolerate abusive language, threats or disrespect towards staff or any other member of the community.

That is the reason FlorianDAquisto has been suspended several times and in this occasion permanently banned. It has nothing to do with expressing an opinion, giving feedback or disagreeing with our view but rather about making the community unsafe for other members and staff.

With all that said, I will encourage you all to continue with your language learning journeys but also to continue engaging with us so that we can build a better product together.
