How will the forum work in future for Decks and Memrise?

So, “my” Swedish courses move to Decks as from mid-March, but what about the forums for the community-created courses? Will they still be on the memrise forums? Will the forum be renamed to make it clear that it caters for Decks AND memrise courses?

We will be restructuring the forum to incorporate Decks and Memrise related content. All the community course sections (such as your Swedish course) will remain, but the layout and sections will be re-arranged.

@MemriseMatty: will you also carry over course contributors (as apposed to the creators themselves)?

Will we still be able to contact memrise staff to ask to become course contributors for courses on “Decks” where the original course contributor has been inactive for a long time?

Hello  Alahn asked a similar question and Kevin5284 promised to respond in 1-2 weeks (and add the answer to the FAQ):

Thanks, @Milamy!

I am scrolling through the immense thread of responses to the Decks announcement and didn’t see this.

Hi @amanda-norrsken yes as @Milamy said we’re working on a proposal for this at the moment.
@Olaf.Rabbachin yes contributors should carry over

Thanks, Kevin.

@kevin5284:

Many moons ago, before the app arrived, there was this really nifty button in the corner of every single word (flashcard) that said - iirc - “report” and if you hit that button, it would send you to the in-course forum for that course and you could instantly report problems with an individual entry.

It was BRILLIANT and it was so easy to do. I sure wish that could be re-installed, but if the forum is going to serve both memrise and Decks, then I guess it won’t :frowning:

I wish there would be a report function available like on Duolingo.

I want to be able to suggest synonyms or alternative sentences to the course database.

A course owner and contributor needs to be able to view a report-queue where the suggestions are directly linked to the entry.

I think it is import to have both (course thread with discussions and feedback from advanced learners and native speakers), as well as a programmatic way to simply accept the offered suggestions.

If there are errors contains for the uploaded sound or English translations this need to be automatically reported and tracked too.

This is EXACTLY what you could do in the old forums!

Hmm, so why was this useful feature then removed? There’s been months and months of activity where the user created content features have been downsized. Sounds like a political battle inside Memrise.

The new forums were created at some point to cater for feedback for the official memrise courses on the app as well as the community courses.

And if you look at any of the languages on the forum, you can see that it hasn’t worked very well. There are always individual posts (usually for the official courses) all over the place that should be in the thread for the course. If there was a button embedded in the course that took you straight to the forum for that course, that would be so much neater than the mess they have now.

Hello Ben, Hello Ed,

what do you think about this enhancement on “Decks”?

I am not sure if there is a better (existing) thread for this available to discuss this for the future of “Decks”.

The only thing I am well aware from Duolingo moderator feedback is, that there are usually too many (false) reports and that the Incubator contributors can not handle thousands of reports very well (especially for the first skills = course levels).

It seems to be simply too difficult to get to the final “good reports” per skill (=Memrise course level) so these good suggestions could be overlooked and finally be accepted in the Incubator system.

As a Java (JEE) backend developer myself, I also expect that cleaned/deleted wrong errors are repeated and will be resubmitted by “non-native / advanced or not formally studied language” users if you:

Do not put those CLEARED ones into a “false positive” database where a user gets a popup message that he/she is not allowed to submit this answer/entry as an alternative or synonym again because it has already been flagged by the course owner or contributors for (permanently) not being accepted.
