I know you can type “ß” using double S, but is there a way to type the “ö” using only the keyboard? If not, I am going to be forced to ignore “die Schönheit.”
oe = ö, ue = ü, ae = ä
but I doubt those will be accepted by the memrise algorithm as alternatives. Maybe you can contact the course creator and ask him / her to add those possiblities. Would be sad to ignore Schönheit .
And you can always use the alt-key plus number key pad - codes are here

Cooljingle has a new “Autocorrect” user script which I am using for Portuguese and all special characters.
You type the normal sign, the script completes the correct form - IF the order of signs is all correct.
This makes especially sense for “strict-typing” courses like DuoLingo-Portuguese.
Typing without using Memrise’s special character box (with the mouse) is much much faster for reviewing 100 words
Thanks, Foorgol, I will give the alt+numbers a try if it happens again.
Thomas: Yep, it’s the inconvenience of using the mouse. Probably if I were learning a language for professional reasons I would be a little more exacting on myself to learn all the proper punctuation, but when it’s just for fun, nah.
