How to turn off predictions for what you're typing?

When I try and type an answer in the entry field it brings up a list of predictions of how to complete it underneath, saying: “Hit tab to select prediction candidate”. I am doing courses where I’m trying to learn languages and I don’t want to have suggestions that will give away what I’m trying to learn as that kind of defeats the purpose. I’m using Google Chrome and Windows 10. I’ve tried turning of the autofill and auto complete setting I could find in the Chrome settings, but it’s still doing it. I don’t know if there’s another option I’m missing somewhere or if it’s from Windows 10, because it wasn’t doing this with my old computer with Windows 7. I’ve just been trying not to look for now, but it’s very frustrating and takes extra energy and willpower to focus only on what I’m typing and not on the text directly below it. It also seems to be based off of what I’ve previously entered, so it’s basically telling me the answers.

These are the options I was able to find in Chrome and tried disabling to no effect:

  • Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar or the app launcher search bar
  • Enable Autofill to fill out web forms in a single click.

I’ve tried searching but haven’t been able to come up with anything else and I’m getting really frustrated!

Sounds like it is your operating system doing the autofill, not the browser. Google autofill windows 10. Sorry, don’t use it myself or I could give better instructions. I’m on a mac and iPad.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve tried messing with windows settings, but nothing I’ve found has gotten rid of it so far. Is there anyone who does have Windows 10 who knows how to turn it off?

Okay, I finally realized it’s part of my IME when I am typing in Japanese. If anyone else runs into this problem, you can go to “Settings for Microsoft IME” (I just searched in the search bar for it), then under “Advanced” there’s a “Predictive Input” tab where you can unclick “Use predictive input system”.

You’re one of the top links on Google for this question. You’re helping a lot more people than you think! Don’t be fooled by the few people who just happened to also have a Memrise account. Thank you so much!
