How to get words back after deleting all levels

I made a course about TOEFL and I named it “TOEFL WORDS”. It didn’t have any levels. After adding two levels, I didn’t like the level format and wanted to revise it without any level such as the first time I made it. But unfortunately, all of my added words deleted! I’m very sad because it took a lot of time for me to create this course and add too many words with pronunciation!
Please help me if there is a way to recover words in my course.
Thanks

The words are most likely still in your database.

To check if you have any thing in the database click ‘Edit Course’, then ‘Database’, then select the top line (usually there are only tow lines, e.g. ‘French’ and ‘add new’.). The datbase screen opens. What do you see?

Let assume that this were your original words (do you still know them?)
hello salut
I je
you tu

Steps:

  1. Click on Edit Course
  2. Type under add words ‘hello’. See image. Now all entries with the word ‘hello’ should show up, probably just one
  3. Hover over the entry that you want to add to the course. A plus symbol will appear.
  4. Click on plus to add the entry.

Note: also entries from the ‘Memrise’ database will appear if you had choosen an ‘existing’ database when creating the course’. This is a bit technical, but the gist is that some users in the past added entries to a database for that langauge and that at course creation it’s used as a kind of template.

Thanks a lot! Your guidance was strongly very helpful. But, now I have another problem. I have some levels with some words in alphabetical order. How can I move a word from one level to another one?

There isn’t really a move function. So what you do is:

  • add the word to the right level that you want to have it in
  • delete the word from the other ‘wrong’ level

I do this quite often when updating courses.

Note: deleting entries from levels, doesn’t delete the entries. The entries are still in the database as is any learning history for any student for that entry. So adding it to another level will also show the current learning/review status.

Thanks a lot for your guide, John. :slightly_smiling_face:
