Hi there learning Korean, I am a native English speaker looking for native Korean Speakers. I want to make many friends while I study this wonderful language, if you can please help when I am stuck. I also use Hellotalk, this is my hellotalk ID: laweenrashid96. I also have Kakaotalk that could be given another day.
Thank you

Hi.

Do you live in Korea or another country? Depending on that info, I could maybe point you in the right direction to find native Korean speakers. As a native English speakers, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone.

Nicolas

Sorry for my very slow response.

Being in the country makes it of course much easier to meet native speakers, but no despair, you should still be able to find speakers easily wherever you are.

I was in Texas for a year (after leaving Korea), and it turned out that a surprising amount of people are looking to learn the language. This was not my case, but many of them got interested because of K-POP and K-DRAMA.

Here is what worked for me to find such people (both learners as well as native speakers).

Make an account on www.meetup.com. Search for social events around you focused on Korean (language, culture, KPOP, etc). This of course depends on how well developed Meetup is in your town.

Make an account on https://www.conversationexchange.com/index.php?lg=en. Specify which languages you can offer, what you are looking for. If you want to make sure your language partner is there for the language only, maybe pick someone of the same gender. However, that is completely up to you, and language learning can go through various means.

Check out if Nottingham has a centre for second generation Koreans living overseas. Google is your friend. Korea has a strong tradition of providing Korean lessons for young kids that are growing up in a foreign environment. I found one such centre, and it turned out that they were also providing classes for non-Koreans at the adult level. Great advantage, such classes are often heavily subsidised (Samsung for instance) and as such, are surprisingly cheap compared to other more commercial centres.

Finally, if you’re religious, check out some of the Korean churches around you. They very often offer free classes. Depends of course on how much you’d like to have/get Jesus in your life at the same time.

Good luck and keep us posted if you find any other resource that works for you.

PS : I took the liberty to modify the title of your post, so as to make it relevant for a wider audience. I hope you don’t mind.

italki.com is a great site, both for meeting language partners/friends and finding teachers and community tutors!
